[Bottle] On sale at the store as a single undated bottle. A nice layer of dust suggested it has been sitting around for a while though. Pours a light copper color with a quickly receding off white head. Light and malty aroma includes some caramel and grains. Toffee, sticky caramel, breakfast rolls and surprising hop finish. A tad sweet, but the hops keep it in check for the most part. Could have had a slightly thicker mouthfeel, but itís not bad.

5/10/10. On tap in a pint glass. The aroma is creamy caramel lager. The flavor is sweet cream, caramel, lager yeast, and some brown roasted malt.

Draught in the cafe next to the Vienna City Hall. Quite dark Amber color, with a nice head. I wasnít expecting a Vienna lager. It has a slightly malty aroma, but not a very strong one. It has a malty, slightly caramelly taste though not really sweet. Sightly burnt, dry, and hoppy. Itís very interesting. Dry, slightly burnt finish. Itís a really great beer, similar to the SiebenStern Maerzen. I had never seen beer quite like this from a major brewery here. Love it.

Bottle. Poured a chestnut brown colour with a red hue. Medium sized beige head. Aroma of malt, toffee, honey and hops. Roasted malt, toffee and honeyish flavours with some dried raisins also. Quite smooth with a light hop finish. Slight metallic aftertaste. Very lightly bodied and softly carbonated. Not bad for a vienna.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a thin beige head. The aroma has notes of malt and caramel as well as lighter notes of straw. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt and caramel, leading to a dry malty and lightly bitter finish.

MoritzF (8464) - Bochum, GERMANY - MAY 31, 2009
(33cl bottle) Clear, amber colour with a short beige foamy head. Sweet malty nose with notes of caramel, marzipan and vanilla. Sweet-bitter flavour, light to medium bodied with a soft carbonation. Malt-accented taste with notes of caramel and nettle-like spice; dry and slim, slightly bitter finish with a tinge of metal. Initially a promising brew but later a bit bland (11.XI.08).

Thereís something about this beer thatís akin to a refreshing drink of high mineral content water. The only comparison I can think of is water I once tried from a limestone mountain spring in Kentucky. The rest was crisp and dry with an undertone of caramel that was not too sweet or malty to disturb the overall lager balance. A nice light bodied beer similar to Lowenbrau.
