On tap in Bologna. Crisp and dry beer, palate cleaning, a good refreshment. Geenrously hopped, a pronounced flowery aroma and a bitter finish.

Bottle at Microbar, Clapham, London 26/01/08. Honey and cream nose pours deep red copper coloured beer. Huge white foamy head. Medium body. Tatse is metallic, with malt and some sweetness and spice. Quite flavoursome.

UPDATED: DEC 29, 2007 Coldtrüb amber colour, with fast gone yellowish head. Very sweet bready nose, like a German Bock, smells also like active caramelisation. Taste is much more neutral to slight bitterish; leafy & earthy flavours, virtually no sweetness, with the exception of some retronasal caramel. Light to medium bodied, light grist slickness. Special, even taken into account the Vienna characteristics. Marcus, thanks!

Bottled(330ml). -Nice pale cooper coloured, small head, malty nose with notes of toffee. The aroma is also very malty with notes of toffee, caramel and fruit. Rather sweet finish. Simple and quite good vienna.

Lightly hazed copper color with a moderate light beige head. Caramel and spaghettio aromas. Something about the sweetness and toasted malt smells that come together and for the Chef Boyardee nose that do not make this very appealing. Not a real DMS scent, just an oddity. Thinner feel with light caramel, dried fruit, pipe tobacco and toasted rye flavors. Some grassy hops in the middle. A thin vienna.

Silphium (2969) - East Lansing, Michigan, USA - JUL 30, 2007
Light orange-brown (dull copper) body, thin off-white head. Aroma of toffee and fig, thin and acidic, even soapy, with toasty notes. Thin, lightly tart body with notes of tobacco, toast, and fig. Decent complexity for such a thin beer, but the watery body and acidity are underwhelming.

..pours translucent copper with no head..aroma of sweat, over-ripe fruit, and brown sugar..flavor is a slightly sickly sweet sugar mess that somehow still seems slightly watered down...(hows the alliteration?)--- this beer is so damn awful i had to think of some fun way to rate it--my advice would be to stay away from both Austria, and this beer of theirs

This pours a rich orange body with a slender head that does some sporadic lacing. The aroma is a sweet, wort-like smell with a bit of caramel added. The flavor is very sweet, too much so for me, and I’d like it a lot more if that was cut somewhat by some additional hops. As is, there’s only a very modest earthy bitterness to it. The finish is malty sweet and sticky.

Fresh, fruity and light sweetish aroma. Reddish, brown color, small creamy head. Flavor is smooth and malty, some freshness and fruitiness. Light roastbitter end. Pleasant drinkable.

The first beer to be brewed by this historic brewery when it set up as a service station refreshing Knights and Merchants passing along the ancient Venice - Vienna trade route. Only available on draught, this reminds me of a full-bodied early evolution of Dreher’s Viennese brew. Sweet and hoppy with deep roasted and caramelised malty undertones. Heaven
