COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Hirter Morchl beer is not just a unique brand – its production method also differs from that of other dark beers. Hirter Morchl is still brewed the “proper” way, with dark brewing malt, hops and caramel malt, which are also responsible for its dark colour. Beer lovers will appreciate its dry maltiness on the palate and pleasantly rounded, faintly bitter finish. The Hirter Morchl is another specialty beer that is allowed to mature naturally and in its own time and that is neither pasteurised nor otherwise interfered with. It is rendered non-perishable by means of a double filtering process.

Pours a deep, rich mahogany with a 2-finger, fluffy, tan head. Faint cocoa notes reveal as sour vegetals fade while raisin, coffee and caramels intensify. Thin & sugary in the mouth. Malty, dunkel flavor has chocolate undertones but is more or less one dimensional (yet tasty).

Bottle from some Spar in Graz
Poured a dark Cockta-like red-brown colour with a medium to small sized thick beige head that went away slowly. Roasty and somewhat malty aroma.... weak hints of coffee and later on, nuts.. Pleasant taste.... a lovely note of honey, weak hoppy notes, some hints of almond, low low lemony hints, silky body, inobtrusive but quite obvious roastiness going long into the aftertaste. The best dunkel I’ve had so far.

You could call this dunkel a schwartzbier and I wouldn’t argue. It pours a dark brown body highlighted in ruby with a respectable creamy tan head. Nice lacing. The aroma is sweet with lightly roasted malts, some bittersweet chocolate, and crushed walnuts. Nice sweet roasted malt flavor, dark caramel, a nutty bitterness, and a suggestion of coffee grounds. Good sessionable lager.

This poured with a dark brown and garnet high lighted body. The head was a medium khaki and clung to the glass. Pancakes, caramel and some almonds made for a rich nose. The taste had some caramel with iced tea. There was also a hint of nice milk chocolate in the finish. A smooth and slick body help to make this a nice session brew. A pretty good dunkel.

From a 500 ml. euro brown bottle with a best before date, 20.12.06, on the back label. Poured a deep Coke Cola brown with a small off-white/beige head that settled into a thin lacing. Aromas of toasted grains and roasted coffee malts with a light fruitiness. Moderate carbonation and a crisp, slick and smooth medium-light bodied mouthfeel. Very tasty, a sweet caramel toffee and a roasted coffee, a soft fruitiness, a light spiciness from the hops, a little caramelized sugary towards the end and a sweet roasted malty finish. I didn’t know what to expect when I picked this up, but this dunkel lager was flavorful and well balanced, quite quaffable.

Draught. Nice, sweetish aroma. Very dark brown colour, stable light brown head. Very flavourful. Very roasted and a bit sweet. Liquorice, sweet caramel flavours. Mouthfeel is nice.
