COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Hirter Morchl beer is not just a unique brand – its production method also differs from that of other dark beers. Hirter Morchl is still brewed the “proper” way, with dark brewing malt, hops and caramel malt, which are also responsible for its dark colour. Beer lovers will appreciate its dry maltiness on the palate and pleasantly rounded, faintly bitter finish. The Hirter Morchl is another specialty beer that is allowed to mature naturally and in its own time and that is neither pasteurised nor otherwise interfered with. It is rendered non-perishable by means of a double filtering process.

Dark brown with tan head. Smells of caramel. Taste of caramel and a bit raisen. Reminds me of Germany. Yes, I know it is from Austria.

.5 Liter draft. Dark reddish brown with thin white head. Heavy malt aroma and flavor. Good balance. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Aroma maltato, caramellato. Colore marrone con un bel cappello di schiuma persistente. L’assalto al palato č dominato dal malto, supportato da una dose leggera di luppolatura. Una birra caramellata e dolce come ci si aspetterebbe da una Dunkel. Un buona bevuta.

Bottle 0.5 L. Brown body with reddish shadings; medium, creamy, tan head, mostly lasting with some lacing. Moderate-to-hesvy aroma of dark roasted malts with notes of nuts, caramel and maybe raisins. Mainly sweet flavour, nicely balanced by a bitter note that becomes dominating in the finish. Medium body with an oily texture; some soft carbonation is felt. Nice beer.

Pours a clear, deep brown with a yellowish-tan head that dissipates quickly, leaving little lacing. Lots of things going on in the aroma, especially as the beer warms a bit. Bready Munich malt, chocolate, molasses, nutty and a strong sweet smell. Tatse: The first thing that comes to mind is that this is not a Munich Dunkel style. There’s some rye malt character there with a weaker hop profile, much like a Euro-style Dark Lager. Whether it fits the Munich Dunkel taste profile exactly or not, this is an awesome beer, in my opinion! Grainy, malty, bready flavors with hints of dark chocolate, caramel, brown sugar and ripe fruity flavors. Yummy! Medium bodied with a light-to-medium carbonation level, making it silky smooth. No alcohol warmth detected. Overall, this was a great beer for a great price! I paid $2.39 for a single 500 ml bottle. I will definitely buy this one again.

Pours dark but not black, can see through it. Big bottle at Solstice. Smells like tar, oil, nutty. Weird. Thick palate. Seems bland but I think it tastes how it is supposed to. Not my favorite but I appreciate it

500ml bottle. Pours a medium creamy white head. Colour is treacle black. Aroma of ginger and peat. Taste is spicy with some orange and gingerbread. Slight coffee aftertaste. Medium sweet and medium bitter. Carbonation is medium to heavy. An interesting take on the dunkelbier style, a very spicy, enjoyable beer. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at the Flying Saucer in Little Rock, AR. Pours a clear, ruby-brown colored body with a finger-width, dense and creamy, tan head that dissipates slowly and leaves lots of lacing throughout. Aroma is lightly sweetened, nutty caramels with a bit of a graininess, a few fruit notes, earth, and toast. Flavor is similar. Nutty caramels, raisins, some grains, a light earth, and touches of roast. Finishes clean, smooth, and lightly bitter with a fairly rich maltiness. Medium length aftertaste following a soft, medium body and a moderate carbonation. Overall, a decent dunkel. Very soft, clean, and round on the palate with a nice balance of flavor. Nothing too exciting, but enjoyable.

I got a single 1pt., 9oz bottle from Everett’s in South Beloit, IL for $2.29 in October 2012. Pours a very dark brown with a slight off-white head. There is a mild scent of hops and malts but nothing too strong. The taste is ever so slightly heavy in taste but not by much. There is a decent combination of hops, malts, and yeast to make a dark beer that drinks fairly easy. Although it drinks well, it really could use some work in flavor department as the taste is kind of bland. For a small city, this was a rather interesting find.
