COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Hirter Morchl beer is not just a unique brand – its production method also differs from that of other dark beers. Hirter Morchl is still brewed the “proper” way, with dark brewing malt, hops and caramel malt, which are also responsible for its dark colour. Beer lovers will appreciate its dry maltiness on the palate and pleasantly rounded, faintly bitter finish. The Hirter Morchl is another specialty beer that is allowed to mature naturally and in its own time and that is neither pasteurised nor otherwise interfered with. It is rendered non-perishable by means of a double filtering process.

Bottled. A clear dark red beer with a huge and persistent beige foam. The aroma is overall malty, not extremely powerful, but quite nice with notes of caramel and nuts. Light roastiness. The flavour has a medium sweetness, nice bready malts with again caramel notes and some hops in the end. Light to medium body, watery texture, average/lively carbonation, short/medium finish with light bitterness. Very drinkable, but too thin body for my taste. Worth a try.

Black-brown with thin tan head. Caramel, mild roast, and mild fruit aroma. Medium bodied, syrupy, malt dominant with mild hop notes. Decent balance and dry notes on the finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle. Closest to Bavarian dunkel that I have found in the USA. Everything that is from Germany or even the Bavaria region that I have found here in the States doesn’t compare to what I had in Germany. This is a very good example of a dunkel.

16.9oz bottle: Murky deep brown pour with a healthy beige head that slowly settles. The nose is full of toffee and plum notes, very fresh and bright. A subtle earthiness lies beneath. The body is full with sweet caramel malts taking charge. Esthery plum and raisin follow, with notes of butterscotch leading into a creamy finish. Very good and real drinkable.

sweet but decently balanced with equal bitterness. sweetness still shines through with a spectrum of notes including grape and the standard mollasses.

Bottle. Dark reddish brown body with tan head. Aroma is roasted malts some hints of vanilla and a little bit swettness. Taste is not really very sweet with some roasted malts some coffee and hints of dried fruits. Aftertaste is nice bitter balanced by sweet roasted malts. Many, many years ago I was always stopping at the brewery and drinking this. Very nice one.

Colore marrone scuro con leggera schiuma. Aroma di malto tostato, in bocca di nuovo tostatura con discreto finale.

Bottle. Dark red to brown body, with a medium, creamy, beige head. Aroma of roasted malts, caramel, dark fruits and sour berries. Taste with the same aromas, also bread and nut notes. Mouthfeel is medium, creamy, with a medium carbonation and it finishes bitter-sweet. Not bad, although I was expecting a bit more. But definitely one of the best Dunkels from Austria and fortunately not as sweet as many others.

Nice looking--dark brown, with a sizeable off-white head that leaves a goodly lace. Aroma, however, is rather unpleasant, buttery, with some thin carob notes, and a metallic twang. Flavor is relatively thin, unpleasantly buttery, with some carob or cheap nougat notes.

I got a single 1pt., 9oz bottle from Everett’s in South Beloit, IL for $2.29 in October 2012. Pours a very dark brown with a slight off-white head. There is a mild scent of hops and malts but nothing too strong. The taste is ever so slightly heavy in taste but not by much. There is a decent combination of hops, malts, and yeast to make a dark beer that drinks fairly easy. Although it drinks well, it really could use some work in flavor department as the taste is kind of bland. For a small city, this was a rather interesting find.
