COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Hirter Morchl beer is not just a unique brand – its production method also differs from that of other dark beers. Hirter Morchl is still brewed the “proper” way, with dark brewing malt, hops and caramel malt, which are also responsible for its dark colour. Beer lovers will appreciate its dry maltiness on the palate and pleasantly rounded, faintly bitter finish. The Hirter Morchl is another specialty beer that is allowed to mature naturally and in its own time and that is neither pasteurised nor otherwise interfered with. It is rendered non-perishable by means of a double filtering process.

Nice looking--dark brown, with a sizeable off-white head that leaves a goodly lace. Aroma, however, is rather unpleasant, buttery, with some thin carob notes, and a metallic twang. Flavor is relatively thin, unpleasantly buttery, with some carob or cheap nougat notes.

I got a single 1pt., 9oz bottle from Everett’s in South Beloit, IL for $2.29 in October 2012. Pours a very dark brown with a slight off-white head. There is a mild scent of hops and malts but nothing too strong. The taste is ever so slightly heavy in taste but not by much. There is a decent combination of hops, malts, and yeast to make a dark beer that drinks fairly easy. Although it drinks well, it really could use some work in flavor department as the taste is kind of bland. For a small city, this was a rather interesting find.

UPDATED: APR 29, 2015 Dark brown color, with reddish hue, huge off white head. Lots of racing. Medium body, lively carbonation. Aroma is roasted malts, dark fruits, blueberries, chocolate. Taste of blueberries, blackberries, chocolate Medium sweet, light bitter taste and dry blackberry finish. Very nice surprise.

I had this at Global Brew. Pours reddish brown with a tan head. Taste carmel, nut, sweet. I thought this was good. I would drink this again. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Clear dark brown color, small off-white head. Aroma is mostly roasted malts. Thin body, a bit creamy. Soft carbonation. Not bad, but I thin score of 99 in style is a little bit too much.

Pours a very dark amber, perhaps brown, with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, bready, and some chocolate. Taste is lighter, and isn’t to bad. Very malty with the above noted flavors from the aroma. Kind of earthy as well. Some carbonation, but altogether smooth. Nothing of not really stands out.

0,5l bottle. Dark brown/black color with thick beige head and nice lacing. Aroma is toasted malt, caramel, chocolate and hint of dark fruits. Taste is toffee, toasted malt and some fruits. Medium body with soft carbonation. Overall it’s quite decent dunkel.

A lovely deep reddish-brown color with thin to no head. Chocolate/coffee aromas. Flavor is a nice mix of sweet and bitter. Palate a bit on the thin side with a nice finish to it. Interesting beer that is definitely worth a try.

Bottle 0,50L brought by friend of mine, directly from the brewery. Dark, clear, ruby red colour with chic creamy, light brown head. Aroma of toasted malts, caramel, brown sugar, chocolate milk. Taste starts light, caramel sweet and finished light bitter. Medium body and oily texture.

Tap pours garnet brown with foamy light tan head. Smell is moderately roasted chocolate malt, pretty grainy. Taste is similar but smooth, subtle creamy palate with grainy fruity sweetness that lingers. Some apple and dark fruit come through the bright carbonation that is perfect to expand the flavor. The end is slightly grain bitter but with a caramel like sweetness that sticks to the front of my tongue. Good brew overall.
