3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Sampled at an esbls tasting. Dark brown with lots of cherry red. A malty chocolate aroma. That is exactly the flavor, too. Just not a enough going on.

Bottle 0,5l. Brown colour. A lasting white head. Some chocolate notes. A bit on the sweet side, but not extreme. Well balanced.

2.7 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 12/20
( 500ml bottled 03/2008 thanks to bu11zeye) Pours light brown with some bubbles and good lacing. Nose of corn, light chocolate. Semi-sweet chocolate also in the taste. Well carbonated and a light linger that is slightly off.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours a deep dark ruby beer with a medium to bigger pretty vast and little lively light brown/light tan/creme head.
Smell caramel, toasted malts, sweeter herbs, some slight hints of darker fruit like prunes, figs and raisins, some oatmeal and grains. I got the idea that the smell is a tiny teeny bit withdrawn.
Taste is a very nice, smooth balanced and pretty full tasting mix of caramel, toasted grains, some hints of dark fruit like raisins, herbs, grass, soft like butter, hint of something metal, hint of some (lighty toasted) nuts. A nice bitterness and a nicely balanced mix of darker ingredients.
Medium bitter, herby, dark fruits and toasted grains in the aftertaste.
Low carbo, soft light tingly mouthfeel, medium to a lightly bit fuller body and a light watery/creamy texture.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The bottle looks good, the beer in the glass also. Week malty aroma. Tastes mild-malty, earthy-roasty. Finish fruity, like plum. Could be a bit drier. Still not bad!

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20
Red-brown with a frothy tan head.
Caramel malt, chocolate aroma.
Taste is dark bread, caramel malt, raisin.
An older bottle, so a bit of oxidation in scent and flavour.....and a little flat.
Nothing exciting......probably pretty solid when fresh.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
50cl bottle. Pours a cloudy brown color with a medium beige head. Aroma is strong and complex: Lots of malty sweetness, caramel, toffee, roasted notes, coffee and chocolate. Taste is similar with coffee, chocolate, roasted notes and hints of spicies. Medium/full bodied with good carbonation. Excellent brew.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: OCT 23, 2011 It is hard to find a better, true-to-style central European dunkel in the midwest. Brown with a red hue. Low carbonation, and a short lived, brown head. Aroma has malt and red meat. Lots of malt in the flavor, with fresh bread and lager yeast. Very smooth, and a good, sweet finish. Rerated 10/21/2011. Score unchanged. This time, I notice sediment floating in the beer, unusual for a dunkel, but I have no problem with that.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
500ml bottle. Deep, thick burgundy-brown with a beige head. Fruity caramel aroma, very mellow and milkshake like. Medium bodied, with some light, watery chocolate tones. Nice and bready, very soft on the palate. Yeasty creaminess really rounds this beer out, and gives it more dimension. Love to have it fresh on tap.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
You could call this dunkel a schwartzbier and I wouldn’t argue. It pours a dark brown body highlighted in ruby with a respectable creamy tan head. Nice lacing. The aroma is sweet with lightly roasted malts, some bittersweet chocolate, and crushed walnuts. Nice sweet roasted malt flavor, dark caramel, a nutty bitterness, and a suggestion of coffee grounds. Good sessionable lager.
