COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
The Hirter Morchl beer is not just a unique brand – its production method also differs from that of other dark beers. Hirter Morchl is still brewed the “proper” way, with dark brewing malt, hops and caramel malt, which are also responsible for its dark colour. Beer lovers will appreciate its dry maltiness on the palate and pleasantly rounded, faintly bitter finish. The Hirter Morchl is another specialty beer that is allowed to mature naturally and in its own time and that is neither pasteurised nor otherwise interfered with. It is rendered non-perishable by means of a double filtering process.

500ml bottle. Aroma of dark, sweet, caramelized malt, milk chocolate and dark bread, with lighter notes of raisin and licorice. Clear deep, dark brown in color with a lasting, uneven, beige head. Flavor profile is gently sweet and full of dark fruitiness, with a rich, malty, bready, toffeeish character, hints of raisin and red grape, and finishing with a light-moderate amount of bitterness and a blend of spicy, almost peppery hop, faint tobacco and smooth, toasty, almost roasted caramel malt. Active and bubbly on the palate, has a certain heft to it but still drinks like a lager of its everyday level of strength, body is medium. Very good Dunkel here.

(draught) nearly black with very small tan head but really nice lace Sweet malt aroma. Flavor is sweet toffee malt, molasses, some coffee and dark fruits. Very dark for a dunkel.

Bottle. Deep translucent orange-red body, thin beige head. Relatively dry nose of toffee, caramel, toast, and a little brown sugar; also leafy hops. Dense toffee flavors dominate the body, which also features caramel and hints of chocolate. Long leafy, toasty finish. Quite good.

Dorqui (1768) - Brescia, ITALY - SEP 21, 2007
UPDATED: SEP 22, 2007 Bottled 0,50L. Beautiful and deep brown color with discreet bubbly aspect. Abundant head of medium resistance. Roast and toasted cereal notes, scent of malt and smoked wood. Very lively and much fizzy taste with pleasant aromas of burned wood and braced malt. Much bitter and amazingly balanced. Not much reisistente final.

16.9oz bottle: Murky deep brown pour with a healthy beige head that slowly settles. The nose is full of toffee and plum notes, very fresh and bright. A subtle earthiness lies beneath. The body is full with sweet caramel malts taking charge. Esthery plum and raisin follow, with notes of butterscotch leading into a creamy finish. Very good and real drinkable.

Appearance: Pours a clear, dark reddish-brown body marked by a few bubbles here and there. Smell: Predominately malty aroma smelling of brown sugar sprinkled of dark fruits, particularly plums and raisins, and encompassed by a slight earthiness. Taste: Oh-so malty! Mixture of brown sugar and caramel with a solid sweetness. Fair amount of fruit. Not very hoppy. Slight soil-minded earthiness. Sip of cool, clean water. Sweetish, fruit finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-bodied. Medium carbonation. Very, very slight stickiness to the mouthfeel. Drinkability: Hirter? I hardly know ’er!

Bottle. Strong nose of licorice and soy sauce which initially dominates. The flavour mellows once it warmed up and had chocolate, licorice, soy, dark fruits and pudding. Sweet mouthfeel. A sort of love-hate relationship with this one. It really opened up and changed in the glass. Interesting beer.

Well it’s not my fave style, but here goes. A pretty dark ruby from a 500ml bottle of unknown age. Aroma of caramel and cassis and overripe berries. Flavor is sweet milky malts with just enough bitter to hold it down. Every sip is better than the last and the finish is smoother and more enjoyable than I would ever have expected. Wow! by the time I get half way through the bottle, I might go get another!
