COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Nipponia is brewed using two Japanese original materials; "Kaneko Golden," the Japanese ancient barley, and "Sorachi Ace," the hop which once was bred in Japan. Please enjoy the citrus flavor, the golden color and the complex taste.

Important!: This is the original top-fermented version. From summer 2011, Nipponia has been bottom fermented. See that entry.

Sampled at the Richmond Gathering XII. Semi-hazy dull yellow pour with ring of bright white head. Nose is like sweaty gym socks and a light citrus lemon spice. Flavor follows quite nicely, but with a bit of a candi sugar sweetness. More lemon citrus and again, spicy. Moderate high carbonation. Pretty tasty offering, but not something I’d be seeking out again.

Date: 9/12/2010 Source:Maniac Honey with a spicy lemon grass aroma. Very floral with some light underlying fruitiness. Cloudy orange golden with a rocky white head. Flavor is sweet with the lemon orange floral carried from aroma. Lightly spicy bitterness in the finish. Medium body with medium to full mouth. Tasty

Pours a hazy yellow, slightly fizzy white head. Goes clear as it warms - pretty significant chill haze going on here! Aroma was lightly of grain and accented with some lemony malts. Flavor was a lightly grainy note, almost with a rice note even though I don’t think any was used here, followed by a lemony hop finish with a faint spice note. Nice enough, but sort of boring. Very happy to try this experiment though!

Bomber? from Wine and Cheese in Clayton, MO. Pours hazy gold with a 2 finger foamy white head. Aroma is something like a citric belgian. Medium body with foamy carbonation. Flavor is citric, and there seems to be a spicey, gingery touch. It is bitter, but the spice seems stronger. It is very flavorful, though that tails off in the finish. Still a great drinking beer.

Pours hazy yellow / orange with a frothy dense head. The aroma has lightly toasted malt, light spice, citrus zest, light soap, nectar fruit, flowers and saison-like traits - quite clean overall. The body is medium and crisp that’s quite grainy and has spritzy frothy carbonation. The toast has chamomile, lavender and other herbal traits along with being very flowery, powder and notes of soft spices, peaches and nectarines. The finish is a little spicier and adds some pear notes. This is an interesting and unique beer.

Baby food, tangerine, and banana aroma. Clear golden, good carbonation, medium head. Lemon and grapefruit flesh flavor, generous amounts of the latter. Light lavender finish. Delightful citrus brew.

500. Pours a hazy medium gold with a big dense creamy and sudsy platinum blond head. Loose eggy lace here and there on the sides of the glass. Grassy, somewhat crackery nose. Creamy medium body with lively carb. Intense sweet grasses, corn, toast, corn nuts, and mild malt sugars on the mid palate. Sweet but subdued brown bread finish. Very nice golden. Generally a style given no intelligible attention, but this one is serious.

Bottle. Golden amber pour with a short, rocky white head. Herbal notes in the aroma along with spicy notes and dried fruit. Light woody notes as well. Taste is delicious! Woody notes, spicy hops, herbal notes, soft grains, and dried fruit. Body is very soft with a smooth carbonation. Finishes with bigger woody notes, spicy hops, softer fruit notes and herbal flavors. Nice surprise!
