This Nipponia is brewed using two Japanese original materials; "Kaneko Golden," the Japanese ancient barley, and "Sorachi Ace," the hop which once was bred in Japan. Please enjoy the citrus flavor, the golden color and the complex taste.

Important!: This is the original top-fermented version. From summer 2011, Nipponia has been bottom fermented. See that entry.

55cl bottle (bb06/2015 - entry as bottom/top fermented?) shared by jaghana@TriState Tasting II. Pours greenish golden, with substance. Complex composition of vanilla cream, butterscotch, canned gooseberry, sweet white wine in the aroma; whisky malts, even a whisp of smoke and spicy/ginger liqueur notes to complement the taste. Palate is both finely textured, oaky and well-carbed. Fascinating exotic sipper at a bearably low abv.

shared @ 2nd D/CH/F TriStateRating, courtesy of jaghana, thank you! A very special nose, vanilla, coconut, coconut-oil, then traces of pineapples and cream, taste as aroma, with alcohol well hidden, subtle sweet- and bitterness. A wonderful beer.

Bottle 55 cl.
Hazy golden, with creamy white head. Malty nose, with some spice and fruit. Medium sweet and bitter flavour. Together the aroma and flavour gives clear associations to hot smoked mackerel. Sounds strange, but tastes fantastic.

Massively overrated! Drain pour!! I tried this in a vertical tasting with Mikkeller Hop Series Sorachi Ace, and Duvel Tripel Hop 2013 (Sorachi Ace). The other two were pretty good, but this was literally poured down the drain not one of us could drink it. Definite sweetener, to the point that it was too sweet to drink. Some of the sorachi comes threw, but this really is a terrible beer. If your a small child or young girl you might be in to it, but I can’t believe most people wouldn’t find this too sweet.
