3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle 55 cl.
Hazy golden, with creamy white head. Malty nose, with some spice and fruit. Medium sweet and bitter flavour. Together the aroma and flavour gives clear associations to hot smoked mackerel. Sounds strange, but tastes fantastic.

2 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Massively overrated! Drain pour!!
I tried this in a vertical tasting with Mikkeller Hop Series Sorachi Ace, and Duvel Tripel Hop 2013 (Sorachi Ace). The other two were pretty good, but this was literally poured down the drain not one of us could drink it.
Definite sweetener, to the point that it was too sweet to drink. Some of the sorachi comes threw, but this really is a terrible beer. If your a small child or young girl you might be in to it, but I can’t believe most people wouldn’t find this too sweet.

3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle fae Brow Dog. Darkish golden brown pour with a small white head. Earthy sorachi and sweet malt nose. Similar flavours with notes of spice and citrus. Satisfying bitterness. Smooth and very drinkable. A characterful and likable beer and one of my favourite offerings outta the Hitachino quiver.

3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Earthy banana aroma. Cereals, grape, plum, sake, strong spicy finish. Quite a complex strong ale with a pretty unique character.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
FROM NOTES: August 11, ’12.
Poured from a 550ml bottle into a Spiegelau tulip.
A: Sorachi hops are very strong in the nose (strong lemon and grassy hop aroma) with a sweet, lightly malted bread and a lightly spiced yeast with lemon rind and hints of a sweetly malted, toasty, bread. World Class nose!
A: Pours a cloudy orange with a small white head that dissipates quickly into minimal lacing.
T: Very much like the nose with honey notes and spiciness, but also considerably drier than the nose indicates. A mild woodiness adds a layer of complexity which compliments the other flavors as opposed to taking it over the edge. Finish is quite sticky and sweet.
P: Medium body, nice creamy carbonation.
O: I love the Sorachi hops and this beer puts them on center stage. If the beer was a little more crisp and sharp, I think it would be a World Class beer, but as it is, it’s very good but short of exceptional.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 12/20
Dark golden pour with a thin head. Good volume of aroma, but very strange indeed, malty butterscotch notes, some yeast, spice, herbal, ginger. The beer has a pleasingly smooth body, but lacks a good carbonation. When it comes to tasting the strange facets of this beer certainly don’t end at the aroma, an immediate malt sweetness, similar to golden syrup greets the drinker, but is shortly replaced by a unique spiced herbal blend that is memorable. Just all round odd!

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
