This Nipponia is brewed using two Japanese original materials; "Kaneko Golden," the Japanese ancient barley, and "Sorachi Ace," the hop which once was bred in Japan. Please enjoy the citrus flavor, the golden color and the complex taste.

Important!: This is the original top-fermented version. From summer 2011, Nipponia has been bottom fermented. See that entry.

Bottle, shared with Bergen Beer Geek Tasting Crew. Pours a hazy straw-hued body with a small white head. Nose is citrusy lime and straw tones, honey, herbs and hints of lemon. Very inviting. Taste is floral citric herbal tones, lemon zest, lime, hints of straw. Very refreshing and nice. Smooth and soft body with medium carbonation. A straight up delicious golden ale (which is a genre demanding a lot for me to score it high).

Pours opaque gold with foamy white head, that dissipates fairly quickly. Basement, citrus, caramel, biscuit. Moderately sweet and bitter. Full bodied, a little crisp with smooth undertones. Ok.

550 ml. Bottle purchased for take away from Brewdog Camden. This spend some time in the cellar, so I assume that this is the 2011 Version. Bright golden with spotty white head. Smell is sweet cheese from the sorachi ace, less blue chess in this one just sweeter yellow cheese, butter in a good way, not from infections etc. golden fields of barley, sweet sugar summer fruit. Sweet yellow cheese Sorachi ace taste blended with some floral touches, sweeter punch fruits with sugar, white wine grapes, fields of barley, soft fruits, good way butter, light bitter spice in the back. Appears to have lost some potency and body with age but still very lovely and original.

Getreidiger, mild hellmalziger Beginn. Süffig, aufkommende Bitterkeit. Geringe Herbe, etwas langweilig. 9/8/9/9//8

Wheat and mild citrus aroma. Golden, cloudy, carbonated, frothy white head and decent lacing. Wheat, citrus, grain, rice, and alcohol taste notes. Full bodied, mild bitterness, and strange wheat-citrus finish. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

The aroma is bready, lemon. The appearance is cloudy yellow/orange, white head. The flavor is lemony, citrus, bread, light vegetable. The finish is lemon, citrus, lingering bitterness. Medium in body, slightly thick. I was very interested in trying this beer. Pretty good.

Bottle from Nina’s Mini Market. Cloudy yellow brown colour, good head. Lemon yeasty aroma & flavour. Lemon aftertaste. Quite unusual but not bad.

Medium golden coloured with long lasting head. Sorashi can be a powerful hop, this one tastes rather orange than lemony. Kind of a pomelo to a grapefruit. Neutral aroma.

The Sorachi Ace hops stand out well in this beer. I would say I will be specifically looking for these hops in the future. Japan’s thriving craft beer market is accentuated in this beer, but it lacks the bite I would like to see from it. Still a very nice beer and I would definitely buy it again.

(500ml bottle) cloudy light gold, soapy white bubbles. Nose is funky, lemon, sawdust, lightly tart, ripe stone fruit. Taste of ripe banana, lemon, estery, fresh stone fruit. Nice finish.
