3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20 Rastacouere (6058) - Montreal, Quebec, - NOV 11, 2012Clearish amber ale with an everlasting, lacey white foam. Very strong phenolic yeast character come out of this malty ale whose alcohol remains subtle. Earthy, toasty malts are the foundation. Nutty/resinous flavours come across as slightly oxidized with stale overripe fruit esters (apple, pear) intermingling with the generous residual sugars to provide a jammy, if not syrupy texture. Pie-like spiciness, presumably from the forward phenols bring forth strong nutmeg and subtler clove/cinnamon touches. Reminds me a little of the Charlevoix yeast and its all over the place from start to finish. While residual sugars are plentiful, there’s a lactic character (yogurt) that hangs above it all, whilst its soft acidity combines with the sweetness to create a key lime pie reminiscence. Intriguing, but fairly chaotic ale that follows no direction, which is perhaps circumstantial considering its singular history.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 otakuden (1704) - Vero Beach, Florida, USA - MAY 29, 2013
Appearance:
Deep slightly rustic copper and garnet under a spotty white head which lingers mostly full with some random arcs of lace decorating my glass at whim.
Nose:
Gentle sour tropical fruits with fleshy sweetness coming in the back. Freshly baked moist white breads underneath, as if to sop up all the above juices. Apricots, peaches, and kumquats. Candied pineapple. Intriguing rice milk esters in the very back.
Palate:
Faint rice milk/rice cake esters in the back. Overall milder than expected from the initial impressions its nose gave. Light pineapple, apricot, peaches, and cantaloupes – more juice than flesh or skins. Soft leather notes in the back reminiscent of the softest brushed golden leather possible. Tartness along the sides. Gentle dries my mouth and brings me back for more.
Final Thoughts:
An intriguing beer with a truly heart-wrenching story behind it that reaffirms the strength of humanity that out of destruction shall come something new and wonderful. Honestly, I enjoyed Hitachino’s 3 Day Beer and would liken it to a sessionable wild ale with a tropical kiss. Unique and never again. I consider myself lucky to have tried and shared this beer.

Bottle. Poured an amber color with an averaged sized tan head. Interesting aroma - rotted fruitiness, ginger, spices, tart cherries, caramel, and yeast. Tastes of the same with a lighter tart finish. Interesting. This one grew on me more and more as I drank it ...

Cooked pineapple, ham, caramel, and farmhouse aromas. Murky, light brown, with little head. Dry, earthy, nutty, and a little sour. Light-medium body, average carbonation, and with an earthy finish. It’s hard to say exactly where I’d categorize this beer, but very interesting.

Medium amber, nice head, clear. Somewhat sour aroma, faint cherry. Flavor is caramel accented malts, rich, and moves into a fruity and touch sour finish. Really interesting. Liked this.

Caramel colored pour, light head. Lots of bready notes, some sour fruit, yeasty, spice, fruity and lightly tart on the finish. I get good doses of wheaty flavors too.

A constant lactic sourness that grows on me. In fact, nicely drinkable, also a little woody (I would like more of that) and a little spice (I would like more of that). Drunk fairly soon after arriving in the U.S. Premiere Gourmet.

Has some interesting scents, bit of peach. Taste is similar, bot of a astringent wheat and sour.
