330 ml bottle into pint glass, bottled in 9/2013. Pours moderately cloudy golden orange color with a 1 finger fairly dense white head with good retention, that reduces to a thin cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings down the glass, with some moderate streaming carbonation. Aromas of orange peel, lemon zest, tangerine, pear, apple, bread, cracker, light honey, herbal, floral, and yeast earthiness. Nice and pleasant aromas with good balance of malt, hop, orange peel, and yeast ester notes; with solid strength. Taste of orange peel, lemon zest, tangerine, pear, apple, biscuit, cracker, light honey, herbal, floral, slight pine, and yeast earthiness. Slight floral/pine bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of orange peel, lemon zest, tangerine, pear, apple, biscuit, cracker, light honey, and floral earthiness on the finish for a good bit. Nice and pleasantly balanced malt, hop, orange peel, and yeast ester flavors; with good robustness and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and body; with a smooth and lightly creamy mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is a nice English IPA. Good balance of malt, hop, orange peel, and yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to drink. A nicely enjoyable offering.

Bottle from K&G. Very malty, with good balance of citrus, but not really an IPA.

Bottle from Asahiya. Deep fruity and malty nose, with plenty of citrus. Very pretty amber, bright and crystal clear. Smooth caramel and citrus mix / in mid, the carbonation pushes it into darker fruit notes, and some alc. warmth emerges / finish is sweetish and then balances in final. Tasty and restrained. The dai dai comes through in whispers rather than shouts.

Bottle, 01/24/2014. Pours dark orange amber, medium white head fades to a haze on the surface, small ring of lacing around the glass. Aroma is honey, perfumed orange, rather malt-forward, cereal with mild toast, some caramel. Taste is honeyed citrus, quite a bit of orange character with moderate hop bite in the middle, slight pine, toasted caramel malts to finish. Medium body. Maybe too much emphasis on the orange character, losing some of the hoppiness in the process. Alright.

11.2 ounce bottle from Beer Run. Pours a hazy amber color with fine floating particles. Thin white head. Fair head retention. Aroma of sweet floral citrus, honey, mild yeast and earth. The taste is pale malt, honey, stone fruits, citrus. Medium bodied, low bitterness, moderate carbonation, slightly slick.. Decent.

Smells like Tang, the drink of astronauts. Unfortunately, thats where the high stops. Golden amber in color with minimal lacing, this IPA was average on the eyes. For an IPA, this thing was a malt bomb. Very little citrus flavor followed that awesome small. Very weak on the tongue and heavy on the wallet.

Bottle thanks to Alemax. Pours copper with lots of floaters, pulp. White head settles quickly with minimal lacing. Aroma is strong resinous, piney hops, citrus. Flavor is citrus, tangerine with a resinous, piney, floral hop finish. Soft carbonation, medium body, and juicy texture. A juicy, mild IPA. Refreshing, good for style.

Poured from a 12oz bottle marked 8/13 into a tulip glass. One 12oz bottle cost $5.49 ($0.46/oz). /> Dai Dai IPA pours a nice orange color with a shock of white head that looks nice in the glasses. There’s a large amount of floating particulate that could be because of the fact that the beer was 5 months old or it might be from the beer’s production. The nose is mostly orange candy, almost as though someone crushed up some orange smarties or poured some Tang into the glass. There are touches of citrus hop presence here that comes with a little bit of caramel or sugar sweetness. The palate is interesting, with light citrus hop notes (lemon, orange zest) accompanying some malt sweetness and a little bit of pine resin. To me, it’s a little artificial, but it’s not unpleasant at all. /> This beer is drinkable in that the alcohol is almost completely hidden in the flavor profile. That said, some of the orange candy sweetness verges on being cloying.

This is an interesting beer, and I’ve love to have an opportunity to try it fresh. For a fruit beer, it gets fairly high marks for taste, but the fact that they’re trying to call it an IPA makes me retreat on some of those points. Interesting, but far too expensive for what you’re getting.
