IPA brewed with Japanese wild breed mandarin "Fukure Mikan". Refreshing flavor of this mandarin complements well with citrusy hop. The perfect balance act of hop bitterness and Umami taste.

Aroma: Toffee, orange peel, and a hint of caramel.
Appearance: Pours a slightly hazy amber colour, with a lingering white head.
Taste: Caramel, orange, and a slight hoppy bite.
Palate: Quite sweet throughout, with a bitter aftertaste. Light body. Medium carbonation.
Overall: Quite unusual... in a good way. A nice, sweetish beer, with enough of a hop kick at the end to remind you itís an IPA.

Itís a strange beer all round. It pours bright orange with thin lacing, lots of sediment (or does this actually have fruit in it?). The aroma is not much hops, lots of citrus and a strong grain smell, has that funk hops smell of Belgian beers. The taste is very smooth, light, low bitterness, lots of toffee malt flavours but not syrupy at all, very refreshing. They say itís an IPA but Iíd call it a session Belgian ale... with fruit.

Bottle from K&G. Very malty, with good balance of citrus, but not really an IPA.

UPDATED: OCT 20, 2013 Tap at Yellow Ape. Golden colour, small white head. Aroma orange, bit of yeastiness. Taste nice enough, decent orange, bitterness again, quite sweet but something not quite there. I like orange stuff so was a bit disappointed. Will try again some time. Rerate at home from bottle. Either I was pissed or it wasnít as good on tap. Still not mindblowing, but the orange taste is pretty nice. Aroma is a bit caramelly and subtle orange. There is still something not quite there. Taste is good, but something about the body maybe. It feels too thick and not refreshing and crisp enough for me. But definitely prefer it this time.

Small bottle from Le Collier Marunouchi, Tokyo Railway Station. Pinkish orange brown, good head. Oregano resin hop aroma. Tastes like a herby pizza. Never had a beer like this before. Smooth with spicy aftertaste. Not sure why this is classed as a wheat beer. More a spice herb vegetable. Would go great with a pizza.

Aroma is rather sweet and heavy with caramel, some resiny hops and orange. Also some citrus. Flavour has grapefruit, fruity hops, resiny tones and caramel. Unusual IPA, but I seem to enjoy this. Heavy but still refreshing and not overwhelmingly sweet.

6.2% ABV Attractive enough head which dissolves quickly. The mandarin orange peel comes through so very coyly in the nose; Very clean hoppy mouthfeel right away and all the way to the end. Refreshing with the bitter herbaceousness leavened a little by the citrusy nose. There is a subtle sweetness right after the tang of the hops and a very brief interlude where you can taste the malty beer that this excellent refreshing brew is rooted in. Says right on the label that itís brewed with Fukuremikan which is a sweet mandarin varietal not too distantly related to the ponkan, which makes me think of Chinese New Year when I take a whiff of this excellent brew. It comes out being highly refreshing without too much carbonation and heavy enough to not be dismissed as another "hard soft drink". Itís a little crass and more than a little random, but it smells so nice when you burp.

Fresh mikan aroma. Bitter orange, candy, fruity hops, bittersweet and sour finish. Good balance for a rich local fruity ale.
