On tap @ Haven Gastropub. Amber in color with an off-white head. Nose is really sweet and malty. Lots of caramel, light orange oil, and some old hops. Meh. Flavor is no better. Just sweet and muddled. A bit of orange along with caramel malt and stale hops. Minimal bitterness.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Hitachino Nest Dai Dai does not quite rise to expectations. Light orange aroma rising from an orange pour and nonexistent head. Taste has an initial bitterness that dissipates to reveal pleasant orange notes. No real hop floral like might be expected from an IPA. Orange notes linger on the palate. Dai Dai is pleasant enough but not particularly memorable.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Head is initially average sized, frothy, off-white, mostly lasting.
Body is hazy medium amber.
Aroma is lightly malty (toasted grain, cookie), moderately hoppy (apricot, flowers), lightly yeasty (cobwebs), with notes of tangerine/orange, dried mango/papaya, black tea.
Flavor is moderately sweet, moderately acidic, lightly bitter.
Finish is lightly sweet, moderately acidic, moderately bitter.
Medium body, watery/syrupy texture, lively carbonation, lightly alcoholic.
Hard to rate the aroma, since it’s so over the top with fruitiness. Fresh and vibrant and juicy and nectar-like, but it just seems kind of cartoonish and artificial at the same time. Quite tart/sour in the mouth, which combined with the bitterness makes it a little out of balance. Kinda watery too. All in all a weird and somewhat fun, but disappointing brew.
