Excellent color, aroma, flavor. Did not think the Japanese could make a beer this good. Great last beer of the night. mgermani (864), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
| 3.6 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 2/5 | 8/10 | 3/5 | 16/20 | Feb 11, 2009 Pours a pitch black with a lovely thin brown head with decent retention. Aroma is dark chocolate & coffee, light alcohol. Nice roasty astringent coffee more than balances a sweet stout base. Lingering coffee finish, light tang to it. Thin body with a bit of creaminess to it, reasonable carb. This one is quite tasty - would have done with a bit more body, but beggars can’t be choosers! carl4beer (400), Fairfax Station, Virginia, USA

| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 14/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Small bottle from PF Changs. Pours near very dark brown with nice sustained brown head. Excellent roasty coffee aroma. Flavor of chocolate, cocoa, coffee was not overbearing which I really liked. Nice velvety body. But it is horribly expensive, so I have to dock it a point. nickd717 (1331), Palo Alto, California, USA
| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 6/10 | 4/5 | 13/20 | Feb 2, 2009 Bottle from City Beer Store in SF. I just wasn’t really that impressed with this one overall. Someone I was tasting with commented that, "It’s like a cold cup of coffee." It has some quality that makes it similar to Hitachino White strangely.
Appearance is dark brown with a huge tan head that takes forever to go down. Aroma of roasted malts, coffee, and some funk. Flavor is coffee, roasted malt, and a sort of sour Japanese quality that I can’t quite describe. Not particularly strong flavor overall. A little creamy and pretty smooth on the palate. kiefdog (1586), Tampa, Florida, USA
