COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors. The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil. Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate. The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base. Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.

Bottle from Beermoth. Pours dark brown, with red-tan head, which goes away quickly. Aroma of Coffee, Chocolate, roasted malts. Taste of initial Coffee, quite faint, then dark fruits and chocolate, then another stage of Coffee, then vanilla, then another blast of Coffee. Not enough Coffee flavours.....Loved it!

Bottle from LCBO. Very dark with brown head. Lovely aroma of dark chocolate and coffee and raspberry and hazelnut. Nice mouthfeel. Dark chocolate and espresso flavours.

Bottle to glass. Pours black, little head. Aroma is black coffee, dark chocolate, a bit of complex fruitiness. Roast malt lingers on the nose. Taste is fantastic. Nice complex coffee / espresso up front, smooths out to dark chocolate and faint cherries / pomegranate. Mmm! Thick body, medium carbonation. Really impressed. Lots of flavor and complexity.

Huge stout! Moderate roasted malts, loads of coffee, dark choco, light vanilla, dried dark fruits. Oily smootish, full bodied. Moderate sweet with light bitterness. Another great coffee stout for breakfast. Highly enjoyable

Dark brown / black beer with a small beige head, low carbonation. Tastes like espresso coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, cocao and chocolate. Cofee bitter aftertaste, nice stout.

June 28th, 2013 - Hitachino has been fighting against the current in Japan’s pale lager soaked market for quite a few years now. The beer scene is changing, in Tokyo and elsewhere, but as it does so I believe Hitachino deserves regularly accolades for paving the way and holding fast when Japanese brewing legislation made it difficult to brew something with a little flavor invested in the recipe. This dark, rich looking bear guards itself from the atmosphere with a large, inch thick dome of bubbles, which release a perfume that is potent and rich with a dairy creaminess and low, shy chocolate darkness. The flavor abounds with espresso flavor, though it’s not at all bitter - unlike the real deal, which I still delightedly pucker through. The sparks of flavor resembling dark chocolate cacao nibs are good, too, creating an overall deep, dark beer that would be well served alongside select kinds of Japanese cuisine: anything barbecued or sauced, or any meal accompanied by a lovely Japanese snowfall.
