COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Caramel, roasted, black and chocolate malts provide an explosion of coffee like flavors. The strong espresso character comes from the addition of espresso beans to the boil. Notes of vanilla, dark fruit , cocao and chocolate. The very unusual character of Hitachino Nest Espresso Stout stems from the fact that Kiuchi Brewery is using the recipe of a Russian Imperial Stout as base. Pitch black color, big brown head. Aromas of chocolate, roasted bitterness, black currants, dark fruits.

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2015 Quite delicious. The bitter of the coffee balanced excellently with the sweetness of the malt. Serving: Bottle

Valentine’s label version 330ml bottle from Liquors Hasegawa in Tokyo. Poured into a English tulip pint. Black with a caramel hue and huge brown sugar colored head that dissipates fairly quickly. Cacao and malt aroma is big and in-your-face. Hints of coffee and milk chocolate present as well. Taste is big, bold and chocolatey with nice dark roasted coffee swirled in on the palate. Reminds me of a cafe mocha. As it comes to room temperature the flavors persist and a little dark fruit sneaks out as well: currant, fig and plum. Gorgeous beer.

This beer pours a dark black color with a thick khaki head that had good retention and left great lacing around the glass. The aroma is espresso, dark coffee, chocolate, dark fruits, some ash. The flavor is dark roasted barley, dark roasted bitter coffee, charcoal, dark fruits, and some chocolate. I don’t pick up much hops and the mouthfeel is medium. For the price, this beer is not an every day drinker but it is worth at least one try.

Bottled. Aroma dark roasted malts, pretty intense. Very dark colour. Taste is strongly coffeeish. Rather coffee dregs than fresh espresso, but nicely fruity nevertheless and full of dark roasted flavours. Very good.

330ml bottle bb07/2015, courtesy of Calisky, merci. Nice black, medium-thick pour with beige head. Still contained aromas, even upon warming, of Hasseltse koffie, aka strong filter coffee with a dash of jenever. Bit of a sleek aluminium character to it as well. Really shines in taste, with very potent arabica berries, precise roast, more strong filter coffee rather than espresso, thinly strewn out bitter chocolate merging with exotic stone fruit hops in the back. Great dry finish recalling pulverised version of all those tastes. Should be very impressed if the label is to be believed that this is a Reinheitsgebot brew.

Bottle. Thick oily black appearance with a small layer of head that quckly disappears. Aroma is coffe, vanilla, chocolate, and anise. Taste is light roast, followed by coffee and a hint of vanilla, finshes with more coffee roast and some subtle sweetness. Medium bodied, high carb. Tasty stuff, lots of coffee roast, and very well balanced.
