Botella at "home" in Obatake mura, Yamaguchi. Black colour with a nice big creamy brown head leaving a good lacing. Pleasant aroma of roasted malt, chocolate, coffee, some dark fruit and bit vanilla. Good filling mouthfeel. Flavour is just so pleasant: lots of roasted malt with coffee and chocolate along with dark fruit and some vanilla, soft bitterness. Smooth like. I have been looking forward to taste this for some years. Not disappointed at all! Great brew!

Deep maroon color with very thin tan head. Aroma of coffee, flavor of malt and light chocolate with unsubtle coffee overtones. No surprise I suppose. Well balanced overall.

4.3 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Let me confess: I’m a sucker for coffee/espresso stouts, so it was with great excitement that I cracked this bottle open, that After4ever sent me! It’s pitch black and the head is nougat colored, delicious and creamy. The aroma has roasted malt, loads of coffee and licorice. The flavour has a light sweetness and coffee, coffee and coffee - and oh, did I mention coffee?? It also has sweet licorice and a light bitterness in the finish. The body is full and very nice, and the flavour lasts forever and ever - it’s a really nice stout, right up my alley Tom, thank you so much!

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle from Healthy Spirits in SF. Opaque brown/black pour with a good sized dark tan head. Aromas of dark roasted malt, coffee, kind of oatmeal, with a slight chocolate note. Full bodied, smooth, creamy carbonation. Flavor turns to mild burnt malt, and is decently bitter. The start is almost sugar/milk in a light way. It’s silken. Finish is dry, but not overly bitter. Any hop just blends in. Quite pleasing. With time the smooth, strong coffee becomes dominant. It really ends up coffee!!

Heavy roasted balanced flavor with a heavy chocolate bittersweet finish of long duration. This is a standout beer.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
A: The pour is nearly black with a thin tan head.
S: The nose has plenty of strong coffee to it along with quite a bit of bittersweet chocolate. A bit of burnt malt, and licorice.
T: The coffee flavor is up front and lightly bitter. The chocolate provides a nice sweetness along with a smooth, creamy flavor that I was not expecting.
M: The body is medium and really just quite smooth. The beer is fairly lowly carbonated.
D: Pretty easy to drink for an "imperial" stout. Nice coffee flavor and an even more impressive chocolate quality.
