Hige foamy dark brown head. Maybe the darkest head i have seen. Nose is like a starbucks esspresso with of the physical heat. All coffe, roasted goodness. Taste has that coffe bite, but I mean that as a complement. Nice touch of smoke, and lingering dark chocolate. Like a fine belgian choclate to taste with an italian espresso. This is exactly what comes to mind when I heard espresso stout. Quite nice indeed! If I knew this was so good, I would have tried to get more. VER BIG THANKS to Dan from oak tree, I loved this.
rerate-later in the beer... There is even a very nice complentary cream aspect as well, truly a joy, this brew! SSSteve (2107), Atlanta, Georgia, USA

| 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Aug 23, 2007 Bottle from State Line. Big, big espresso nose. High praise coming: one of the top two or three coffee stout noses I’ve sampled, and probably the closest to actual espresso before taking on a more chocolatey tone. Opaque pitch pour with a dark brown head, soapy and foamy and excited. Initial taste is pure espresso - less bitter than the actual stuff, but the ring of it is the same. Roast, chocolate, and even the dregs at the bottom of the tiny cup, with lesser contributing notes of vanilla and faint bourbon. Bittersweet and burned, big league taste in session form (7.5% excluded). Alcohol is very well integrated and non-intrusive. Velveteen feel and a medium, still thickish body. Aftertaste is dry and slightly woody. Clean and really yummy! I’ve liked this brewery for some time, and this is another treasure. foundmd (163), Cincinnati, Ohio, USA

Nice lacing on the glass. Aroma of chocolate, coffee, and sweet malts. Big espresso flavor with dark chocolate, vanilla, and hint of balancing sweetness. Light and smooth on the palate. An excellent, drinkable coffee stout. zizzybalubba (405), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA

Aroma is pure dark roasted espresso. Espresso dominates the palate but there is some dark chocolate and dark fruit as well. The alcohol is undetectable. I really, really liked this one. Thick dark brown head, serious coffee note (of course), great aroma, smooth bitter finish with a nice touch of mollasses on the end. This beer has an interesting viscosity to it. Think Guiness + a unique mixture of chocolate, coffee, nuts, fruit, and spice. Pours great with a almost black body, with caramel head that lasts. The taste is very unique but not overpowering. Great drinkability.
