4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 arjoseph (634) - Chicago, USA - NOV 13, 2007
Bottle into mug, purchased at Frugal MacDougals, Nashville. Nice looking stout, with a sizeable medium brown and creamy head over opaque ruby black beer. Rich dry coffee ground aroma punctuated by burnt wood qualities. Wow, the coffee in the flavor hits right away, right when it hits the tip of the tongue, before the flare-up of carbonation even has a chance to foam in the mouth. This is true to its name: it even as the acidic roast aftertaste of Lavazza on the sides. Besides the espresso, this has a light caramelly sweetness and malt character that rides the foamy carbonation and leaves just a little bit of sweetness for the finish. Wonderful. I don’t know how a beer of this ilk could taste better. It’s not as complex as the recent spate of "breakfast" stouts, but as a straightforward coffee stout, this is top-tier; this is maybe the highest score I could see myself giving for a beer of this type.

330ml bottle from mane liquor. Pours a deep tar black with a healthy size tan/brown head. Strong mocha aroma which really hits you from the word go! Staying true with the aroma the taste of mocha really stands out with a mild burnt caramel after taste. Very little carbonation makes this stout go down quicker than you’d want it too and just left me wanting for more. Definitely worth a try for any stout fan!

Aromas of dark chocolate, espresso, molasses. Body is thinner than expected. Little bit of espresso. I was slightly disappointed, but it’s no bad.

Dark coffee brown with a chocolate head with a slight orange hue. Aromas of brownies, chocolate, chocolate pudding, cocoa, coffee. Flavors of brownie, coffee, chocolate, hint of vanilla (but hidden), slight caramel. Roasty, medium sweet, roasted malt aftertaste, lightly bitter, delicious.

Tastes of roasted malt, fairly bitter coffee and a bit of cocoa.
The mouth feel is very smooth.

Pours thick and black with mocha head. Sediment throughout. Beautiful. Smells like all things good in this world. Coffee, chocolate, sweetness. Awesome slick palate. Slightly bitter coffee beans balanced perfectly with fruit sweetness. An all around amazing amazing stout. Hard for me to find anything wrong with this.
3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20 wchesser (341) - Denver, Colorado, USA - MAY 11, 2012
Medium palate, very dark. Minimal head and lacing. Very dark roasted malts and lots of coffee on nose and in taste. Tasty, but pricey. Glad I tried it but won’t be buying it again.

330ml bottle pours black in color with a big beige head that leaves a few spots of lacing as it settles. Aroma is dominated by coffee with hints of chocolate and roasted malts. Taste is also coffee dominant with some chocolate malt sweetness and roasted malt bitterness. Medium to heavy body with decent carbonation. As I am not a coffee drinker, I did not enjoy the coffee dominant flavors of this brew. Although it is a top quality beer, it is just not for me.
3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 imaragingbull (349) - Sydney, AUSTRALIA - MAY 9, 2012
Bottle pours opaque fizzy cola black with tan head, somewhat dissipating to a light covering. Big coffee bean aroma mixed with a nice roast, burnt toffee, chocolate and grains. Some light grassy noble hop character and pitted fruits are also apparent. Medium body of nice roast and coffee bean expanding into a big rich body of chocolate and caramel to boost the other key flavours with lingering coffee bean bitter and reflective finish. Average carbonation. Top! top! beer!

Note: 6/10
