3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 Lubiere (8243) - Ottawa, Ontario, CANADA - JAN 6, 2013
A hazed orange amber ake with a thin off white head, deposits at bottom of glass. In aroma, sweet vinous malt, lightly maderized, light terpentine and menthol, not bad. In mouth, a nice sweet malt with mint notes, umami notes, grassy hops, quite nice.
3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 AR (856) - Georgia, USA - DEC 16, 2012
This beer taste very similar to a good red ale. The taste is somewhat sweet, which gives way to a bitterness in the aftertaste.
3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 JCB (3804) - Durham, North Carolina, USA - NOV 25, 2012
Bottle from Sam’s, Durham. The first Hitachino I had and still impresses with its cedar-fueled distinctiveness. It’s the kind of thing that, unlike most wood-aged IPAs, can only come across because they strike the right blend of hops, with a light citrus bringing out the sharp and almost ginger-y spice of the cedar. Malty and sweet enough to balance things out and impart some softness. Pretty enjoyable.
4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Invocus (6) - USA - NOV 9, 2012 does not count
The Classic Ale has a distinct flowery aroma, and a great mix of hops and a slight sweetness in its taste. The aftertaste is subtle, smooth, and slightly sweet.

3.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20 sergelutaba (64) - Alberta, CANADA - OCT 24, 2012
Bottled. Amber color, big off-white head. Aroma is fruits, marzipan, quite sweet nutmeg like notes as well as some mild spices. Flavor is wood, mild smoked wet things as well as spices and quite nutty. Mild vanilla. Very different, yet pleasant brew.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Palme (2250) - Bergen, NORWAY - OCT 9, 2012
0.33l bottle shared with The Tasting Crew. This one pours a cloudy light copper colored body, tons of particles floating around and it has a small quickly sidesticking just off-white head. A bit low and non IPA-ish on the aroma, I get some fruitiness but it’s subtle, it’s somewhat sweet and almost floral. Also there are hints of mango and peach. Nice enough. It’s also quite on the sweet side in the taste. A bit to caramel-sweet if you ask me. Peaches and concentrated sweet honey melon. Subtle hoppy but still bitter. A strange interpretation on a IPA if you as me, but also a bit interesting. 25.07.2012

3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20 crazyvin (1692) - New York, USA - SEP 18, 2012
Exploded when I opened the bottle, don’t think i shook it or anything. Poured a nice medium orange-amber hue with a nice sediment at the bottom. A frothy beige head that had great retention but no lace. Aroma had some nice fruity esters and s delicate cedar note to it. Really lacked hops and a sweet malt base. Flavor was slightly sour, not in a negative way. It seemed lost between a sour ale and an amber ale. Hops were mild in after taste and the carbonation seemed elevated.

330ml bottle-Pours a cloudy dark orange colour. Nice subtle hop aroma. Good hop bitterness finish. No hint hint of the higher alcohol. Very nice beer.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20 umich03jm (909) - Allen Park, Michigan, USA - SEP 3, 2012
Pours a very cloudy medium orange color with a nice frothy head that lingers a long time. Aroma is faint for an IPA. I’m getting red fruit, tropical fruit and wood. Taste is very fruity, strawberries, oranges, and pineapple. Solid bitterness throughout. Finish is pretty smooth and very dry. Woody and fruity taste lingers on the tongue. A decent IPA but kinda odd. Tastes more like an imperial fruit beer than an IPA. And I think the wood aging hurts the aroma.
