Amber orange color. Lots of spices in its aroma. Nice body. Sweet at the beginning, but then the orange zest comes in and gives you some bitterness. Nice beer in overall.

11.2 ounce bottle into tulip, bottle code of NY.11.11(presumably November 2011?). Pours hazy reddish orange color with a nice 1-2 finger dense off white head with great retention, that reduces to a nice cap that lingers. Some slight spotty lacing on the glass. Aromas of big bubblegum, coriander, orange peel, banana, cinnamon, pepper, wheat, caramel, vanilla, biscuit, and yeast spices. Very nice aromas here with good strength and complexity. Taste of big banana, bubblegum, pepper, coriander, cinnamon, caramel, clove, nutmeg, orange zest, wheat, biscuit, and yeast spices. Slight spicy bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of caramel, banana, bubblegum, pepper, orange zest, and yeast spices on the finish for a good bit. Great balance of flavors with good complexity. Medium carbonation and body; with a nice creamy and slightly slick mouthfeel. Very easy to drink for 8%; with hardly any alcohol warming noticed on the finish. Overall this is a great spiced amber ale. A lot of great flavors that have nice complexity and balance.

From the bottle, pouts a lovely dark ruby with a wispy off white head. Orange peel is apparent, spices, slight medicinal odor as well. Slight chewy mouthfeel, warm and sweet. Very nice indeed. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Pours a cloudy amber with a small cream head. Smells fruity and spicy with a little wheat on the nose as well. Taste is slightly sweet with good malty body and complex spices. Notes of pineapple, orange, banana, coriander, vanilla and cinnamon. Med bodied. Med-soft carbonation. Warm spices, vegetable bitterness and a touch of fruit on the after taste. Finishes a little chalky with cinnamon taste. Complex and well balanced as are most Hitachino ales. This is a very nice ale.

Pours vibrant copper-red (matches the owl on the label). Nose is alcohol, nutmeg and coriander. Taste is sweet with cinnamon and nutmeg, which actually plays nicely with the very evident alcohol astringency. Otherwise unpleasant, the alcohol burn works to some degree. B-effort.

Got this under the label "Commemerative Ale." Malt, vanilla, spice, and a little apple in the aroma. Flavor is sweet with citrus, vanilla, and a little bubble gum. Alcohol and carbonation give a little balance in the finish. To me this was like a high alcohol hefeweizen. Not what I expected, but still good.

11.2 fl oz bottle, labeled "Commemorative Ale 2012", and ABV listed as 8%. Thin tan head that quickly fizzles to minimal. Hazy peachy-orange color. Really spicy coriander and cinnamon taste, drinks like a double wit / winter ale hybrid. Light, smooth carbonation, drier texture. Pretty nice.

0.33 l bottle (as Commemorative ale 8 %). Hazy amber color. Sweet, tart and spicy aroma with coriander and pine. Spicy and slightly soapy flavor with clove, pine and citrus. The soap and pine character brings wild rosemary to mind.

Draft at Mugs Alehouse. Complex aroma, Getting lots of different things all at once. Again I’m tasting so many things its hard to pick the individual flavours, Belgian characteristics, tartness, sour and herbaceous. It has a pleasant mouth feel. Would drink again
