COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
This Red Rice Ale was brewed with special red rice which had been cultured in ancient times in Japan. Please enjoy the complex taste and beautiful natural color. The ale has complex Sake like flavours with a hint of strawberry in the nose and palate.

THOUGHTS: Complex, but in a fairly subtle way. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it had a lot of complexity for a beer that was full of lighter flavors that aren’t necessarily all that complex. Hid alcohol fairly well among such light flavors. I was surprised that it was quite sour. Great balance with sweetness, sourness and acidity. But complex doesn’t always mean great. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, orangey gold with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had light cereal; moderate fruity, dusty and musty yeast; pear; peach, pineapple; a little flora; lemon; lemon rind; apricot, and slightly sour fruit. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, sour and acidic, and slightly bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately sour and acidic with a surprisingly long duration for all the the light flavors. There was light fruits, light citrus, pear, peach, green grape, lemon, apricot, maybe a little pineapple, a little citrus rind, pineapple near the edge where it is bitter; yeast; sour fruit; a little honey; and duty and musty yeast. The light to medium and dry body was made to feel even lighter by fizzy carbonation and a dry and slightly alcoholic finish.

7% ABV This strong pale ale is deceptively substantial, looks like a light pale ale, but packs a hefty first mouthful. There are strong hints of burnt barley and an almost abrupt hoppy finish with a lingering aftertaste of lightly salted caramel. The red rice gives the usual NEST offering the heft that made this a very pleasant surprise second outing with Hitachino beers. Very drinkable. Made me want baby back ribs.

Bottle at Copenhagen Beer Festival. Low but lasting fluffy white head. Clear amber body. Mild and relatively sweet fruity, mainly oranges and lemon, aroma and flavor with a touch of honey. Little hops bitterness, Low carbonation, short finish. .Thinbodied in spite of the high alcohol contents.

Aroma: Lemon, grainy, grape, red rice Appearance: Hazy, amber body. Small, off-white head. Good retention. Flavour: Herby, grainy, red rice (?), Medium bitterness, Medium-low sweetness. Dry finish with lingering herb. Medium sake-like flavours that lingers into the finish. Mouthfeel: Medium-light body, medium-high carbonation, creamy, light warming. Overall: Strange flavour, but I do not know what Red Rice tastes like. Overall a great beer. Bottle at Beerhouse in Cape Town. 23. Speciality - Speciality grain.

330ml bottle. Grain and bread dough aroma. Pours with a cloudy copper colour and we’ll retained frothy head. Grain and bread flavors with strong sour notes and a solid alcohol kick. Medium bodied with a sour alcohol finish. Interesting.

5/13/15 Red Rice Ale from 12 oz bottle. "This Red Rice Ale was brewed with special red rice which had which had been cultured in ancient times in Japan." Copper color without much head. Aroma is weak a little like a Hefe. Not a great taste either. Fruity without the normal hops or malt flavor. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

Bottle from Ammersin. Aroma general fruitiness, some caramel, light wildish element, might just come from heavy rice usage. I honestly do not know. Really wonderful red colour, slightly hazy, a few floaties. Taste is mostly caramely and fruity, berries, red fruits. Lots of fruitiness going on. Some sakéish notes. Quite good one.

Bottle from Sake Taniguchi (World Beer Market). Earthy, grainy nose, light floral notes, a bit medicinal, and some alcohol fumes. Reddish brown color, thin head, and slippery lace. Light sweet fruity initial, moderate roast malt, a bit of syrup, and some alcohol burn in mid and final. Thin body. Nose is interesting, but the flavors and body seem too light for the alcohol.

Bottle. Pours clear dark amber with white head. Loads of sediment in bottle. Rather fizzy looking. Aroma is malt, bread, dough, yeast, rice and some weird spiciness, may it be mustard seeds? Taste has same notes, malty, dough and slight spices. Finish has rice and is a bit parfumated. High carbonation and light yet soft body. Well hidden alcohol.

Bottle @Fermenteam tasting! Thanks to Jakob. Pours a slightly reddish red, clear amber with a big, White head. Aroma is pretty spicy with mustard seeds, slight berries, yeast, leather, rice. Taste is pretty sweet with lots of rice, slight bitterness, not as spicy as taste. Very smooth ricy finish. Slight perfume as well. High carb, smooth body. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone
