THOUGHTS: Complex, but in a fairly subtle way. I guess what I’m trying to say is that it had a lot of complexity for a beer that was full of lighter flavors that aren’t necessarily all that complex. Hid alcohol fairly well among such light flavors. I was surprised that it was quite sour. Great balance with sweetness, sourness and acidity. But complex doesn’t always mean great. TECHNICAL: Bottle. Poured a hazy, orangey gold with an average, off-white head that mostly diminished and left good lacing. The aroma had light cereal; moderate fruity, dusty and musty yeast; pear; peach, pineapple; a little flora; lemon; lemon rind; apricot, and slightly sour fruit. The initial flavor was lightly sweet, sour and acidic, and slightly bitter; while the finish was lightly sweet and bitter, and moderately sour and acidic with a surprisingly long duration for all the the light flavors. There was light fruits, light citrus, pear, peach, green grape, lemon, apricot, maybe a little pineapple, a little citrus rind, pineapple near the edge where it is bitter; yeast; sour fruit; a little honey; and duty and musty yeast. The light to medium and dry body was made to feel even lighter by fizzy carbonation and a dry and slightly alcoholic finish.

A very good, unique Hitachino. Pours a nice clear amber with a light white head. Smells of rice, red bean, mint and eucalyptus. Taste is quite thick and creamy, but light and refreshing. Lots of rice and bean, and maybe a hint of Ben gay. Similar to the XH. Had in the bottle at Long Grain in Camden, Maine.

Bottle from Vesuvio, DarlingtoPours hazy amber with a pink tint and a white head. An interesting tasting beer - spicy and sweet with caramel, rice, wheat and fruitiness. Seems Belgian in style. Quite nice.

(bottle, 33cl) Hazy, slightly pinky golden colour with a medium-sized and slightly off-white foamy head. Sweet red berry-fruity aroma with specialty grain character (the red rice ?), notes of caramel and hints of flowery hops. Sweet flavour, medium to light bodied with a smooth carbonation. Hearty “malty” base with pronounced fruity (strawberries, rapberries) and lighter flowery notes, far away from being perfumed but really present; sweet and mildly bitter finish with an aftertaste that has some fruit cocktail and yogurt character. Nice brew, something unusual. 01.VII.14

Definitely different; it’s like Sapporo on steroids. Has a very creamy body and strong rice flavor with some clementine. Summer beer.

An Asian situation. Hazy gold bier with a piece of sediment. Smells like cheap lingerie, apple and wheat. Forward bite with pepper, wheat and yeasty goodness. A good beer for Japan.

Cloudy amber/orange with a white head - I can’t really see any pink hues in it. Head quickly disappears. Rich aroma of red berries and flower petals. All manner of things in the taste: red berries , raspberry jam, syrup, cinnamon, ginger, caramel malt. Like beer crossed with caramel spiced latte. Or, jammy sponge pudding soaked in ale. Odd. Very odd. But in a good way, I think?

A complex beer and rice aroma and a rich red color. Semi dry yet sweet start to the taste that ends up being over powering sweet in the end. -- rated via 'Find A Beer' for Blackberry 10
