BOLTZ7555 (1053), Phoenix, Arizona, USA Aug 21, 2009 10 karat pour created a 1/4 inch eggshell head. Less banana and clove than one would expect from the style...lots of yeast, citrus, and lemongrass. Another beer I wouldn’t get again for $5/12 oz bottle. junon (210), Honolulu, Hawaii, USA Aug 5, 2009 Beautiful wheat beer. It is more dulled than genuine Hefs and has a bit of a rusted copper or orange hue. Aroma is however more orange than banana. Nose is more Belgian than German. Full bodied. Flavour wise the banana is stunted by a more powerful citrus aspect. Again in this area it reminds me more of a Belgian Witbier than a German Hefeweizen. Its like a blend of the 2 styles. Very good though. It was only a matter of time before Japan made their mark on craft beers. Good beer howver expensive, $13 bomber... daknole (2805), Plantation, Florida, USA Aug 2, 2009 Bottle from Hop City in Atlanta. Pours a hazy yellow/gold color with a good sized whitish head. Lots of yeast and citrus fruit on the nose. Flavor is pretty crisp and a bit lemony with some light banana flavors and yeast. Not bad. jason (1620), Easton, Pennsylvania, USA Jul 16, 2009 Bottle. Poured a cloudy orange body with huge head. Aroma is light yeast and earth. Flavor is smooth, earthy/yeasty taste, lemon and banana. Vertical Bacon Strips (874), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jul 13, 2009 Man, I remember having this beer about 5 years ago and I pretty much puked. It was waaaay better than the sweet stout which was nothing short of liquid death. I digress...
Poured out a murky dirty yellow brew with a tiny cap that died instantly. Smells a million times better cause I dumped in the sediment - before it was sour and rotten apples. Now it is quite nice with bananas, soft citrus, clove and lemon. Quite sour, kinda like a flemish sour (yea, I said that), lemon, yeast. Some rough carbonation. Finishes heavy on tart citrus with weak, short lived banana taste in the middle. As a weizen it kinda blows but I’ll take a bottle of this from time to time if I can find it. This beer was brutal before the sediment as I had it at around 1.6. Drastic difference with the sediment. DUMP IN ALL THE SEDIMENT!!!! deyholla (507), Bloomington, Indiana, USA Jul 13, 2009 Bottle at Ashley’s. Poured a cloudy gold with an orange tint and a white head. Aroma was citrus mainly an orange aroma. Flavor was light and pleasantly light citrus and sour with a mainly orange undertone. j12601 (1151), Poughkeepsie, New York, USA Jul 5, 2009
Pours a very hazy golden yellow with a medium dense white head. Sweet wheat and a big crisp sweet lemon on the nose, and some acetaldehyde. Light and crisp, with a little tang to it, and a bit of cardboard. Finishes crisp and with a bit more cardboard and lemony tang. Still rather tasty and easy drinking.
Cirrhosis (610), Edmonton, Alberta, Canada Jun 15, 2009 Body appears to be motor oil with only a small bubble ring around the edge of my glass. There seems to be this strange sour toasted coconut aroma with tons of sweet pineapple juice that has a tart finish in the nose. I also smell rice crispy squares. I like and dislike the aroma but it seems completely wrong for the style. Wow that be a sour taste with more a apple/lemon combo then anything ells. Feels very sparkly and has an empty finish. Has a slight wheaty malt character but that’s very faint. This drinkable but for an hefe its shyt. The only real enjoyable thing about this beer is the 1970’s orange, brown, and gold owl on the label
