2.8 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 11/20 aracauna (2855) - Georgia, USA - JAN 22, 2003
About the same color as the White but slightly better head. There's a slight soapiness, some lemon, not a lot of flavor at all. Maybe if I could have gotten the damn yeast to stop sticking to the bottom of the bottle and pour into the glass it would have had a bit more flavor but it wouldn't budge no matter how hard I swirled. There were overtones of vinegar and herbs in the aroma that made the beer hard to drink. It did have a nice velvety mouthfeel, though.

UPDATED: MAY 31, 2004 Hazy golden amber hue. Big faomy white head. Banana and citric nose. Sweet, light footed on palate, bananas, lemon peel, apples, cloves, estery. Very nicely done, very enjoyable.

My first non-lager from Japan! Really good. The usual hefe spiciness is kind of subdued but certainly there. There's also some slight sourness that's really appetizing, and a little bitterness. A lot of citrus character comes through in both flavor and aroma as well. In the glass it's a nice-looking one; really cloudy gold, with abundant tan head that stays for a while. And after drinking the whole 720-ml bottle (oddly enough, a standard bottle size for sake), I'm surprisingly buzzed... I think this is more of a "wheat ale" than a hefeweizen, but it's still great. Extra appearance points for the bottle.

Strange floral tart aroma with a slight lemon/honey taste. Overly carbonated in my opinion. Sweet and sour.

Some wheat malt in the aroma, along with some apparent tartness and light spiciness. Cloudy golden color, with a goodly amount of effervescence. Flavor is citric and tart, with some light clove and wheat malt flavor. Finishes briskly and sour. Body and palate and light and rather bubbly. Not an overly annoying brew, but I won’t be buying this twice.

Yeasty and fruity, cheesecake-like nose. Rather crisp, but malt builds in body as you swish. Hint of milky creaminess. Has an interesting sour tartness to it that I enjoyed. Lemony aromas/flavors exude throughout. Finish is not very rewarding: some tartness/sourness lingers, but dies beneath a boring dryness. No evident ’banana or clove like flavors’ to speak of, as the description suggests. Nevertheless, not a bad beer, and def not a bad example of Asian potential.

Not being a fan of wheat beers this surprised me. Had a very nice flavor to it.

Had this on tap tonight. Very gingery flavor, which goes very well with the wheat. This is probably the best beer availabe to go with sushi. Very cloudy and blonde.

Looking at the first few ratings here Im kinda surprised.Didnt think this was that bad of a brew. Tart and tangy with a yeasty flavor. May not be a perfect representative of the style but a drinkable brew.

This is not a weizen. This is a mutant beer. It has no defining category, but it’s definitely not a weizen. Clean pour, oliander smells. Lemon, floral, tangy flavor. Dry and crisp. Much cleaner taste than expected from a "weizen." Bumping up the appearance by one cuz the bottle is really cool.
