3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 Mortlach (342) - Rome, ITALY - OCT 11, 2011
UPDATED: DEC 10, 2011 Brasserie 4:20 (330ml bottle). Corpo medio, carbonazione corretta. Bella interpretazione di una belgian strong ale.

Nicely different and a beer that my wife absolutely loved. +++ Sampled from an 11.2 oz brown bottle this beer poured a murky dark brown color with a medium sized creamy beige head that lingered and left great lacing. The aroma was strong cherry, plum, pear, and kiwi. The flavor was strong tart and sour cherries and pears with light plum, table sugar, sake and sweettart candies. The finish was long tart fruit and sake. Pretty boozy but in a way that worked well. Fairly full bodied. Excellent.
4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20 Dorqui (1547) - Brescia, ITALY - OCT 5, 2011
Bottled at "Osteria della Birra" - Bergamo (BG).
Hazy orange dark color, much fraught with a long-lasting bubbly aspect. Great head of long resistance. Complex and prickly aroma; notes of cellar, aged grapes, stum, yeast, caramel. Sweetish and amazing alcoholic perception, much round, fraught and balanced. Little sour final, long nose resistance.

Bottle poured into a tulip glass. Pours a reddish brown color with a 1" off white head. The head takes a few minutes to fade down to some nice lacing. The nose on this beer is very unique. At first I noticed the sake, then a sour funk. The taste is all sour funk. I had high hopes for this one, but then again...sake and beer don’t exactly mix. A unique offering...not much else.

Süßliche-caramellige Geruchsmomente, Ahnungen von Zimt. Startet süß-caamellig und aromatisch.. Mitte caramellmalzig, ölig. Abgang süß, streng-medizinal und alkoholisch.
Gefällt.

Bottle pours medium brown with nice off-white head. Aroma dark fruits and malts, slight alcohol. Taste with brief malts and fruits followed by an acidic medicinal or solvent taste, then hops. Overall taste kind of musty. Palate thick with high carbonation. Finish brief hops and mustiness.
Just didn’t like the taste. The palate was interesting and there is a lot going on in the beer, but I didn’t care for what was going on.

Bottle. Cloudy amber with ample creamy head. I get bubble gum and cotton candy on the nose with maybe some sour apple. Mouthfeel is light and carbonated- reminds me of champagne or hard cider. Not overly sweet or overly bitter. Just a hint of sweet/tart followed by a dry finish. For a lighter-bodied beer, I really like this.
