3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20 Butters (2844) - Richmond, Virginia, USA - JUL 22, 2009
Bottle shared with scottyp and curly at woody’s. Pours a hazy orange amber with large sustainable tan head and sparkling lacing. Definite sake aroma notes with a cedary woody tartness. Flavor is sake and tart cherries. Good high carbonation with tiny bubbles like a good champagne. Extremely unique beer. Good to through in as a change up at a tasting. But expensive.

Strong oaked sake aroma, though it reminds me of cedar aged sake. But anyway. Also get a lemon powder aroma (Lemon Heads anyone?) Soft firm bronze, rapid rising tan head. Love this unique beer. Distinct sides of cedar, sake and orange.

Bottle. Pours a hazy amber with a thick and creamy head. A woody and fruity aroma. Taste of caramel, slightly tart fruit, malts and spicy hops. This is the beer that opened my eyes to Japanese craft beers.
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 GG (1980) - NorCal, California, USA - JUN 16, 2009
The body is amber in color, hazy with a LARGE 3" head. Took awhile for the beer to lay down a bit. Aroma is fruity (mostly light flesh fruit), subtle tartness, woody, and yeasty. I could also pick-up a faint acidic/vinegary smell. Peaches, malty caramel, orange peel, woody and herbal notes round out the flavor.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 MAP (1133) - Lakewood, Ohio, USA - MAY 31, 2009
Single bottle purchased at Chucks’ in Chagrin Falls for $4.99. Pour was a nice heady one. Lots of foamy cream, densely packed bubbles with a little of the amber color from the beer giving it a tint. Aroma is a nice gently fruity wood scent. Almost like fresh wood and bubble gum. This just gives off a very nice clean woody scent. It isn’t overpowering, and it the sweetness is only slightly fruity. Flavor has this nice dryness at the start. The woody-ricey texture jumps out before the hops and the malt bring you back down to earth. Really runs around the mount, starting crisp, getting smooth and then ending with a lemony crisp hop finish.

(Bottle, Monk’s Café, Stockholm) Reddish amber colour with frothy, beige head. Fruity, rather hoppy nose with orange peel and spicy hops. Fruity, malty taste with notes of caramel, orange peel and spicy hops in a finish with a certain bite of bitterness as well as alcohol. Nice and tasty beer.
3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sparky (2128) - Phoenix, Arizona, USA - MAY 21, 2009
Bottle. This one was a gusher. What was left poured cloudy orange with a 2 finger dense beige head that leaves great lacing. The nose is funky cheese, wood and light vinegar. The taste is faint horse blanket, rochfort cheese and wood with some light balsamic vinegar in the finish. Medium prickly mouthfeel. Good stuff – wasn’t expecting a sourish ale. This one was worth the $5 pricetag.
