RAYBOY01 (1630), Chicago, Illinois, USA Apr 20, 2008 Mahogany pour with a pretty substantial white head. The nose is spicy and full of oakiness. Flavors were again, substantial oak, touches of herbal spiciness and a rich sweet syrupy maltiness. The alcohol was subdued. Bigger oak profile than I anticipated, but I did not pick up any of the expected sake flavors or aromas. Pretty interesting experimental brew.
Snojerk321 (1024), San Diego, California, USA Oct 12, 2008 Bottle from South Bay drugs. Pours a cloudy rusted brown color, small off white ring for a head. Nose of oak, brett, farmhouse funk. Not quite what I was expecting from this beer, pretty good none the less. Davecooks (1150), Bay Area, California, USA Oct 9, 2008 Bottle. Pours a murky garnet color with an ivory head. Woody, malt aroma with some cinnamon and caramel notes. The mouth feel is very strange to me, sort of thin and watery and velvety. Very spicy. Caramel notes and fairly hoppy. Dry finish. thooper41 (237), USA Oct 8, 2008 11.2oz bottle: pours a hazy dark brown with slow fading off white head, aroma of bananas sweet spices and a hint of malt, this cant be from japan! flavor didnt hold up as well as i thought it wouldsome of the banana and spices carried through but this beer lacks a much needed body and the spices are a little over powering and the banana is almost not even in the taste. this beer was has a lot going for it with some malt body could be one of my favorite but none the less a great beer from japan and a hell of a lot better then what i expected from a asian country. well done. beerbuzzmontreal (2747), Montreal, Quebec, Canada Oct 7, 2008 Pours a cloudy brown color with a thin beige head. Very nice aroma of wood, caramel and fruits. Very good flavor of wood, caramel and fruits, I didn’t get much of the sake flavors in it, of course I don’t know much about sake to begin with. The body is light with a liquorous texture and gentle carbonation. Interesting and well-made. buzzoven (154), Japan Oct 5, 2008 Smell of waffles, french toast, things that go good with maple syrup, basically. Hazy brown orange hue in the glass. Taste has elements of burnt sugar, caramel, oak, autumn leaves, spiced carrots, and licorice. Kind of a strange and unusual beer. It is sugary, but not in a sweet way, syrupy...yet not in a thick way. Has a certain medicinal quality about it. Interesting glass of beer here. Try?
