3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 16/20
This is one complex beer! I can’t quite figure it out, but smelling it, it almost reminds you of a pumpkin/autumn beer. Very herbal and malty-sweet smelling with a cloudy red/brown color. Flavors of fermented rice, chocolate, intense hopping, nutmeg, cinnamon, light brown sugar, and black pepper. This beer just has a strange funk, most likely from the sake barrels, but it definitely makes me want to try more. Definitely not the best strong ale ever, but this funk is not a Belgian funk, but a good funk none-the-less.

3.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
8%ABV. Belgian Strong Ale.
Poured out a beautifully inviting deep amber color. 16ºSRM.
Nose was full of sweet malty flavors. They were clean ripe fruit flavors. Not hoppy or bright, but subdued and full of simple sugary gravitas.
Mouthfeel was soapy and slightly syrupy with a ponderous malt-balance. There were some nice buttery toffee flavors, black bread and graham cracker were also featured.
Pronounced hoppy finish which acted to mop up very pleasantly what would otherwise have been a heavy malty palate.
Has a residual flavor of raisins.
Goes on Favorites List. (reminded me of Amager’s Batch 1000)

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Ambar turbia, bonito color, pero apenas espuma y se desvanece inmediatamente. Aroma muy potente, a distancia. Excelente. Bizcocho, licor, madera. En boca mucho cuerpo y gas bien presente punzante. Compleja, maltas de calidad, licórica, fruto seco, caramelo, té, uva pasa. Final alcohólico, calor agradable... Copazo.

Fine taste, of alcohol, good for your first beer. However, the weak palate leaves a deal to be desired for the full experience.

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Clear amber pour with white head. Nose dominated by toffee and wood. Super clean on the palate with sweet toffee, raisin, vanilla and spice. Starts sweet finishes bone dry. A tiny groggy burn but 8 percent holds up well.

Big warming alcohol. This is boozy and makes no attempt to hide the fact. Quite malty and savoury.

3.3 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle from Hasegawa. Poured into a Duvel glass. Pours a clear copper with a small beige head that dissipates fairly quickly. Aromas of rice, biscuit, fresh baked bread and alcohol. Average carbonation with a medium body. Cola-like mouthfeel. The sake definitely leaves a little too much sweetness on the palate for my liking. Malty with some wood (cedar?) noticeable as well. Slightly bitter finish that is warming. A solid beer, but not one of Hitachino’s best.
