Thanks to SHIG. Dry stout with a little chocolate and a slight smoke in the finish. Really, not too bad.

Bottle of Black Beer Stout Lager from emart in Seoul. Just 1040 won, it pours a dark brown with a tan head. It has a strong roast malt coffee-ish aroma but the flavor is mostly lager hay/grass followed by a bit of caramel & roast dark malt flavor. It is ok but more of a dark lager. It is by no means a stout, very grassy & a twist top which I hadn’t seen in awhile.

Serving: 330 ml. bottle at Honey Pig Centreville. It pours black with lots of red highlights and a short lived head. The nose has a bit of roasted malt and coffee. The flavor follows suit, more akin to a schwarzbier than a stout. Light to medium body with a pretty crisp finish. High drinkable and not a bad pairing with my Korean barbecue.

UPDATED: JAN 11, 2013 In Hong Kong, as "Black Beer Stout". It’s a lager, as it says on the can. But the aroma is a bit porty, a bit plumish. Not bad for a lager. The style could be an error here, as this is a stout as the Meantime London Stout is. Flavours are a bit loose into water. Roasted malts, a bit of chocolate, and a very very feeble bitterness. Thin bodied, but still with a chalky feel. Not sufficiently stout, but infinitely better than the Qindao (Tsingtao?) Stout I had on the same day.

(12oz bottle, labeled Black Beer Stout, courtesy of blutt59) Pours a brown body with a small fizzy beige head. Aroma of chocolate, graham cracker, and ash. Flavor of caramel, chocolate, caramel, light ash, and roasted malt.

Bottle. Pours clear dark reddish black with a small fizzy off white head that dissipates immediately. Aroma is dark roasted malts and a bit of coffee and molasses. Flavor about the same, medium sweet with very little bitterness. Quite watery in the mouth, with a bit of an odd aftertaste.

Had no idea this was Korean when I stuck it in a pick-6. Turns out is miles better than the regular Hite beer I had a few months back. Pours not at all stout, more like a dark lager complete with relatively fizzy head. Aroma is sweet and roasted malt. Taste has some chocolate and roastiness but again nothing close to "stout" territory. Still, not bad overall.

aroma is of just malt, kind of roasty, light alcohol its dark brown, largely opaque with a tiny pale lace that does stick around a bit. it distinctly is a bit smoother and less aggressively fizzy than yellow fizzy pee beer, but is still a macro. taste is a tiny touch of dark chocolate, roastiness though overall taste is a bit rough and nondescript. this is hands down the hidden gem in south korea, because its also only costs about 5-15% more than the cheapest ultra name brands put out by hite and OB.
