COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Brown ale is a style of beer made with a dark or brown malt. The term ‘brown’ beer was first used by London brewers in the late 1600s. Beers termed ‘brown ale’ include sweet, low alcohol beers, malty and hoppy beers. American brown ales are usually drier than their English counterparts, with a slight citrus accent and an aroma, bitterness, and medium body due to American varieties of hops. They range from deep amber to brown in colour. Caramel and chocolate flavours are evident, due to the roasted malt.

Decent choc malt aroma. Dark brown colour with great tan head. Flavour does not back the aroma, watery choc and roasted malt flavours that strengthen in the finish. Light to med body with med carbonation ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

From a 500ml bottle on 5/1/2014. Pours a clearish dark amber with a medium head. The aroma is mild and roasty. Flavour wise, it features roasted malt, nuts and a touch of caramel and toffee. Has a slick texture and medium carbonation. Easy enough to drink but not particularly interesting.

Bottle shared by maniac at the 8th Richmond Industry Gathering, 12/1/13. Pours a clear brown color with a thin frothy tan head. Aroma of caramel malts and not much else. The taste is caramel malts, nuts and some toastiness. Medium bodied.

Pours a light brown colour with a foamy white head that stays in the glass quite a long time. Aroma of nuts, spruce and some light caramel notes. Also a lot of roastyness in the aroma. Flavour is much the same, also a light touch of smoke, very good balance. Medium body and it has a good dept to it. Light bitter aftertaste. A very good brown indeed.

Dark brown with quickly dissipating head. Up front aromas of chocolate with milk, nuts and grain. Sweet chocolate flavour leads into grain and pleasant bitterness. The chocolate returns with a long, delicious back palate. A slight fizz in the mid palate puts it below some of the high class brown ales but it's a great early winter beer to enjoy in front of the fire/heater. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

500ml bottle. Roasted malt and chocolate aromas are the frist thing that you notice when you pour this beer, sweet and inviting. There is a long standing fluffy pillow of tan foam above a dark brown base. Strong malty chocolate flavour like the aroma is good. Full and rich in the mouth this is a robust beer that has good depth and body. Very easy to drink.

500ml bottle from Purvis Cellars. Great malty brown. Aromas of chocolate, caramel, toast, grain, and nuts. Taste is sweet, with average length. Palate is velvety, and medium bodied. Dark brown, with a frothy head.

Pours dark brown with a large head. Nose shows overt milk chocolate and nutty malt. Not complex, but very moreish. Flavours carry on in that regard, though there’s less chocolate and more roasty characters. Carbonation is a bit high and the body seems a bit watery. A really well made brown ale.
