500 ml bottle conditioned, from Vaaland, Bryne. ABV is 4.5%. Plenty of sediment in the bottle. Very pale yellow colour, hazy. Moderate white head. Sweetish aroma with notes of grassy and herbal hops. The flavour is crisp and medium dry, with distinct herbal, peppery and citrussy hops throughout. Decent bitterness, refreshing.

Bottle. Appearance: Vibrant straw yellow with a slight haze going through it, small pure white head. Aroma: Sweet, peppery hops, grassy, fresh, almost farmyard aroma. Smells good. Flavour: Nice fresh grassy hops, peppery, farmhouse again, citrus, quite vibrant in the mouth feel, lovely long hoppy finish. Quite lovely.

Slightly cloudy amber pour with a long lasting frothy head. Slightly malty aroma leading to a rather rich malty flavour and some bitterness on the palate. A decent summer ale, but it won’t win too many prizes.

Bottle from Tanner’s of Shrewsbury. Pours golden and hazy with a generous head. Nose of gentle toffee and some ginger. Taste of fudge, biscuits and then a lemon note on the end. Palate is medium bodied with a bitter tangy middle section and a dry bitter finish. Overall an interesting bitter.

Bottle from Nuneaton Asda. Pale, brilliant gold slicked with white. Smells like a cheap tinned Greek lager; envelope, cooked veg, wheat citrus, fizz and corn. Better flavour with a Belgian hint of fruit and spice; coriander-like impressions, finishing hop bitterness.

BlackHaddock (4137) - Shropshire, ENGLAND - MAY 2, 2012
Sept 2006 from BA: This is a straw coloured English Bitter, available in Shropshire and the surrounding counties. If you see it at a Beer Festival, take some. Straw blonde, lighter, if the sun catches it, at other times almost see through. Hops and Barley come to mind in the aroma, subtle fruit flavours too. The taste is almost sweet for an English Bitter, smooth and not overpowering. This is not a complexed beer, it doesn’t bite your head off with exotic overtones or explosive ingrediants, it could be called almost ’a simple taste’ because the mouthfeel is so soft. Very drinkable, I have had it at the Brewery, at Beer Fests and at a lot of Shropshire pubs.
