COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Hockley Stout is our brewmaster’s take on a classic Irish stout. Roasted malts, a slight acidity and hints of bitter chocolate are just some of the essence hiding in the inky darkness topped by a thick tan head. Deceptively light, this former seasonal beer has now become a regular part of our lineup due to customer demand. Try it today and taste liquid midnight.

Pours black with a disappearing brown head. Aroma is weak, extremely mild roasted malt smell. The taste is quite dry but the finish is sharp and short. It’s an alright stout and moderately refreshing but thin bodied and forgettable.

Brown-black body and dark beige foamy head but it disappears too fast. Sweet molasses aroma. Flavour is burnt barley, but not too strong as the mouthfeel is rather weak. Odd hints of fermented chocolate in there, too. This ain’t a good stout either.

UPDATED: AUG 26, 2011 Can. Very dark pour. Coffee and chocolate as predicted. Not too bad, but the Dark is better.

Can, Pours a dark black, taste is very similar to guiness, this stuff is quite sweet, and it is very smooth, it has a nice amount of roasty malts and I enjoyed this one, good offering

500ml can. Dark, dark brown with a nice creamy tan head. Roasted malts, nuts, dry, bit of mild milk chocolate (not sure I like that though). Nice carbonation, slightly bitter, thin, mildy dry with some hops, flat finish and not complex.

Metalchopz (1173) - Quebec, CANADA - MAY 31, 2011
Originally rated March 2008. This stout pours a real dark brown colour with slight red highlights. Its head is beige-brown and has a decent size, with very good retention. First aromas are of coffee and chocolat, and after breathing, the hops sticks out. The mouthfeel is a bit thicker than normal beers, but does not stick, which make this brew a refreshing one. The taste seems a bit watered down, with notes of chocolat and coffee, but not really sweet, and not too bitter. The roasted malt is present. Not bad at all, just lacking character.

473 ml can as part of their taster pack. Nice, dark coffee aroma. Dark and creamy look. Malty base, with some coffee and hop accents. Perhaps a bit thin. Not bad.

Black, though not quite as black as a lot of stouts get. Not particularly strong, but well made and well balanced. A lot more enjoyable than you’d think by looking at its score here. I’d have it again.
