4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
463ml can poured into pint glass. The foamy brown head quickly explodes to subdue half the glass. Man, this is one black beast! (Lovibond 39) As dark as a Guinness!? Head is soapier than the dense Guinness head. Smells faintly malty and chocolatey. Taste is refreshing and lightly sweet. Wonderful accents of chocolate and grains. No aftertaste. Just after thoughts (that is, I was considering cracking open another!) Low to moderate carbonation. This really is superb.

2.8 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
473ml can. Big, creamy, mocha head. Almost completely black, tiny hint of red around the edge when held up to the sun. Roasty malt aroma, hints of chocolate and coffee, but mostly pure malt. Aroma is not strong. Thin taste and body. Body is watery but still cream. Flavours are subdued. Overall, it was good, but only good. Should have been more.

2.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
473ml can. Pours a black color with a nice beige head. Aroma of chocolate, some roast malts. Taste is roasted malts, some coffee again. A decent stout, but there are better ones out there.

2.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 11/20
May 7 2012. 463ml can poured into pint glass. All hockleys pour with a big thick head. Very bubbly carbonated head fades quickly. Colour is solid black; tad brown in light. Aroma is malty and hints of bitter chocolate. Taste is subdued malts with accents of chocolate and grains. Some hops gives an odd salty feel and almost sour aftertaste. Leaves an odd balance in mouthfeel. Thought this one would be my favourite hockley but maybe not.

2.7 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 10/20
It’s ok but way too thin of a stout for my tastes. Not enough flavour. What does exist there is fairly good though, just too subdued, so I’m not rating it as low as it otherwise would get, they know what they’re doing they’re just not doing it enough.

2 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 3/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 6/20
Fan of stouts & expect a watery taste to stouts under 5%. 2 finger head witch is brown and cola like. Jet black beer. Smells oif sourness, veary light roastness & chocolate. taste is too much cold water, then a tad hint of sourness mabye. A little hop agressive bit of some sort, plus light dusting of roastedness & chocolate. Doesn’t seem balanced proerly in my opinion. I’d perfer some water taste gone and the other flavours stronger. It’s okay. Stout fan but better stouts are out there. Not bad btw. Cheer’s!

3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
500ml can pours almost black in color with a finger of beige head that retains decently and leaves a thin spotty lace on the glass. Aroma is chocolate and coffee with some roast malts. Taste is roasted malt bitterness with some chocolate malty sweetness and hints of coffee with a faint hop presence. Body is a little thin for this style and carbonation is decent. Overall, this is a decent stout which is easy to drink and quite tasty.

2.4 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 7/20
Pours black with a disappearing brown head. Aroma is weak, extremely mild roasted malt smell. The taste is quite dry but the finish is sharp and short. It’s an alright stout and moderately refreshing but thin bodied and forgettable.

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 8/20
Brown-black body and dark beige foamy head but it disappears too fast. Sweet molasses aroma. Flavour is burnt barley, but not too strong as the mouthfeel is rather weak. Odd hints of fermented chocolate in there, too. This ain’t a good stout either.
