Initially tastes like coffee beans- then the more sophisticated dark beer flavor hits. It’’s ok. BeerPrince (1701), Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

| 2.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 3/10 | 4/5 | 4/10 | 4/5 | 9/20 | Oct 11, 2007 Can from the LCBO. Chestnut brown pour, with a foamy white head. Aroma was very subdued and nutty. Initial taste was pleasant, with malts to the fore, and a decent level of bitterness. The head also made for a creamy mouthfeel. Unfortunately little else other than the sweet malts came to the fore, making this an fairly average beer that I will not return to. motelpogo (4394), Plzen, Czech Republic

| 2.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 3/5 | 6/10 | 3/5 | 10/20 | Sep 26, 2007 Pours a clear brown color with a ring of offwhite lace. Average aroma and flavor of burnt caramel and nuts. The body is light to medium with a creamy texture and soft carbonation. Average, closing on the boring terittory. Aroma is roasted nuts, hazelnuts to my mind, and sweet maltiness. Very surprised how much I like this beer. matt7215 (959), Cambridge, Ontario, Canada

| 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 3/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 14/20 | Sep 9, 2007 Deep brown pour with chestnut hues, a medium-sized beige head diminishes slowly but never fully, solid and intricate lacing left behind. The body is translucent and has ruby tints when backlit, but makes the beer look thin and less enticing. The aroma is nutty with tow parts chocolate malt to every part caramel malt, light toast and raw grain interlacing. Coffee, sweet cherries and apricot are noted. The flavor is all malt and very sweet, with enough toasty malt and coffee-styled astringency and nuttiness to keep it quite quaffable and highly interesting. The caramel and chocolate is quite bitter, nuts are buttery. The finish is bittersweet and heavily toasty. The mouthfeel is highly carbonated and fizzy, medium bodied with a watery texture, very very oily, nonetheless easy to drink. A nice and very unconventional brown ale, despite a description that doesn’t do its quirks justice.
