Bottle. I’m not convinced. This is quite smooth and with some complexity. But I can taste the alcohol and basically, this just doesn’t match up to other beers in the same style.

TomT (18) - BELGIUM - JUL 3, 2005
The flagship beer of the Hoegaarden brewery, situated in the village with the same name and most famous for its white beer. This high quality strong ale deserves its "Grand Cru" appelation. Taste elements of orange peel, coriander and malts and a very pleasant full mouth.

bottle. I give this very high marks based on the fact that it is a very distinct strong ale. Pours a nice golden orange with an emense tight head. Aroma is of pine citrus and spices. The taste is very complex hints of spicy malt, orange peel, and even pine nuts. This beer feels like a woodsy beer, camping perfection.

lagermonkey (725) - Marietta, Georgia, USA - JUN 21, 2005
Pours a hazy orangey-gold with an enormous, rocky ivory head. Big chunky lace. Aroma is spicy and orange peel. Cloves. Peppery. Tastes of citrus and alcohol. Bitter spice and peppery. Tasty but not overly complex. Crisp and nice bitter finish. Good beer.

ashbeero (51) - Perth, AUSTRALIA - JUN 17, 2005
Light orange/yellow coloured, very cloudy beer with a large white head that stayed for a fair while. Strong Yeast notes, spices and citrus on the nose. Flavour profile dominated by malts, spices and citrus fruits. Average bitterness and a dryish finish

Cloudy light orange color. Yeasty aroma with mild citrus aspect. Tangy flavor. For some reason it comes across as being brewed by monks.

Hazy gold with an initially large white head. Aromas are sweet caramel malts with vanilla, spices and banana. Flavours are sweet and malty with warming alcohol, spices and yeast. Quite fruity towards the finish followed by more alcohol on the aftertaste. Quite heavy bodied. Nice but not overly complex.

Deep golden , big white fluffy head, good bead of bubbles. Wow! a big malty nose, with more than a hint of spice! Smooth sweetish palate, BIG on flavour, certainly fills the mouth with spice and malt, finish leaves a nice clean acidic edge..one to savour. Kelso Vic.Wines

Bottle of 30cl. Bought in a dutch supermarket. I prefer this one to the ’regular’ Hoegaarden. Very fresh and with a nice aroma. The alcohol is very well desguised. Beautiful colour: golden but at the same time cloudy. A must... if you like this sort of beers.

One of the best from the Interbrew stable--this is a vinous balance of acidity, sweetness and bitter flavors, with acidity prominent but not overpowering. It’s a pity we don’t see much of this star in the US--it is so much better than its namesake wheat beer. A truly grand beer.
