I am not a fan of Hoegaarden, but I knew this was going to be different. This has a much more obvious Belgian character. Poured from a bottle at a bar, the waiter said to watch, and true to his word it foamed all over, very active. Good golden colour, clouded by all the yeast, big white foam clears. Inviting rich wheaty blonde aroma, very tasty flavour with a distinct Belgian character but not as heavy. Very satisfying when sat out at a square with the sun coming down and the World going by.

Not Bad. The result was a strong wit with a good balance. Shades enough so not too interesting

Bottle at Drug Opera, Brussels. Pours cloudy orange with a medium, frothy white head, medium retention with light lacing. Aroma is biscuit and honey malt, pear esters, light earthy hops and peppery alcohol. Flavor is sweet malt, candi sugar, light hops and bitterness, pear esters, light earthy spices and a dry finish. Full body and medium carbonation.

Grand Cru is Hoegaarden’s masterpiece. But let’s try to keep things modest. It has a fantastic cloudy orange colour, an amazing fruity aroma and an unsurpassed complex sweet and bitter taste. The subtle spices and citrus notes are the cherry on top. There, that was subtle. Available exclusively in Belgium. Unique smell -8,5%

(Bottle) Hazy pale gold with good dense white head. Lovely aroma - bananas, citrus, hint of peppery spice. Medium bodied, smooth, creamy soft carbonation. Excellent taste - rich, complex without being heavy. There’s quite a lot of sweetness, and some nice light fruitiness (again banana and citrus) at the start. It warms up in the mid palate with the alcohol providing some bite - it’s well integrated. Peppery spice notes develop and there’s some reasonable bitterness in the finish. An excellent beer.

Aroma: banana, yeast, caramel. Appearance: slightly hazy, pale gold, small to hardly any head. Taste: medium sweet. Palate: lively carbonation, sweets intensify, very malty, yeast, turning quite bitter and dry in the finish. Overall: very nice Belgian Strong Ale, or a strong Witbier, excellent aroma. Bottle from Beers of Europe, Kings Lynn.

Flavor is sweet, fresh fruits, citrus, spices, malt, yeast. Finish has some dry bitterness. Nicely balanced flavor. Overall: very good brew.

Pale yellow, good head and lots of sparkle. Smell of citrus, hay, malts. Balanced taste - hints of peach hidden-but stops, doesn’t go down the sweet path. Finishes with a bitter taste - strong coriander and cinnamon taste. A good one - but too balanced. Stops somewhere on the way to a triple karmeliet.
