330 ml bottle delivered via suitcase from Belgium. Thanks, Dirk! I have never had the Grand Cru style before. Not sure if this is a great example, but I did enjoy it. Nice yeasty smell I expect from Belgian beers, that damp, stinky, monastary basement smell. I know this may not sound appetizing to you, but it is very appealing to me. Golden in color, very hazey, with a big fluffy white head that disappeared over a few minutes. Nice lacing as I drank it. Definitely a sipping beer, weighing in at 8.5% ABV. Fruity aftertaste with the monastary basement stench and a swell dry finish.

Had this at De Hems on 1/2/08 in a Grand Cru tulip glass. Pour is a murky gold (sediment), and a foamy 1 finger head. Wish I had poured a bit better but I was a bit intoxicated. Smells of orange, corriander, lemon and hay. First taste has grapes, orange, corriander, hint of wine, and light hops. The finish is the same as the aroma. Creamy and full palate with a nice sting of carbonation. It’s right along the lines of the original, but with a couple of extra twists here and there. Glad I found it!

pours bright orange gold with thick white head and lots of floaters. aroma is dried orange peel, some pepper. Flavor is crisp and spicy - some sugars, mild candiness. Very good - would love to try this side by side with some of the big name Grand Cru (Abbaye des Rocs) etc.

Bouteille brune de 330 ml. Arômes de levure belge épicée et agrumes. Robe paille trouble, petite mousse. Très équilibrée, la levure est présente sans prendre trop de place. On note les céréales, une touche d’agrumes et une légère touche épicée. L’alcool demeure très bien dissimulé. Une bière tout en équilibre.

Cloudy honey gold hue, with a frothy white head, with some floaties of lee swirling around, sweet, grainy, wheaty, honeyed pale malt nose, with a faint vanilla, coriander spiciness, with a fruity citusy, candied lemon peel accent in the aroma follows through on a medium-bodied palate with a yeasty, fruity, wheaty character, with a honeyish pale malt ccent, some candi sugar, with a mellow warmth mouthfeel, still a hint of spicy vanilla, and candied lemon peel flavor with a subtle flowery hop leafiness, leading towards a malty honeyish, warming, lingering hop bitterness finish.

Bottle chilled at 5 C poured into an orval gllass First impression is a hazy golden beer with fast disappearing head foam. Aroma is full of banana and yeast with a hint of malt sweetness and alchohol. Taste starts of gentle with a nice mouth feel of sweetness before the low carbon dioxide starts dancing on the tongue releasing all the spicy notes of fruit in the form of "bitter orange marmalade" and clove taste from the yeast. A little pepper feel as well. All of which is enhance by the alcohol warming feel. All these flavors continue beautifully in a lingering aftertaste of contemptment. Needs to be drunk quickly before the temperature raises and all these flavors are lost leaving only a strong alcohol taste.
