KyotoLefty (1371), Kyoto, Japan Sep 13, 2009 Amber colored, light. Not much taste at all, really. Not much in the way of scent either. A rather boring beer. Not assertive at all. Supposed to be an aromatic beer—is it my runny nose that made me lose my taste buds? I can neither taste nor smell anything here. Maybe a little coriander…It’s not bad, but too clean. sebletitje (1880), Tampa, Florida, USA Jun 11, 2009 25cl bottle.
pours hazy amber, thick white head.
Aroma is malty, some spices and floral hops.
Taste, spices, orange peel, wheat, light roasted malts and yeasty, coriander finish and lightly bready.
Elements of regular Hoegaarden minus the witbier side. downender (2535), Bristol, Gloucestershire, England May 7, 2009 Bottle. Red amber with plenty of yeasty floaters. Aroma of marmalade, butter and spice. Flavour started sweet, before an unpleasant vegetal/herbal edge and savoury malt finish. A bit crude. pivnizub (4949), Bochum, Porúří, Germany Apr 18, 2009 Bottle: Cloudy, gushing, big fluffy beige head that slowly collapses; coriander and presumably dark malt in the dusty-grainy nose; light sweetish-sourish flavour, quite soft and light bodied; sourish-grainy finish with some molecular tartness. Not unpleasant at all....... Furseth (1328), Kungälv, Sweden Jan 7, 2009 Bottle: Hazy red colour, thin head. Aroma of citrus, flowers, some maltynes and had a sweet nose. Flavor had a weak mild mouth feeling, with tones of citrus, adn flowers. mike1977ok (633), Netherlands Dec 15, 2008 Copper coloured. Spicy aroma, typical of a Hoegaarden. Easy drinking, full flavour. Lower acidity than a white beer. Coriander and yeasty spiciness. Clean, fresh aftertaste.
DruncanVeasey (2690), The Penguin’s Arms, Europe, Warwickshire, England Nov 27, 2008 Surprising tawny red rusty with bits.Yeast and spice in suspension. Spicerack nose hinting sweetly at ginger, aniseed, red chilli, caramel, clove, banana and strawberry, metal. Earthier than your usual Hoey with something of T.Karmeliet about it. Flying saucer paper and sherbet with a sprinkle of chai-like clove. Watery and fizzless, loses its head a bit. OK but dull, and lacking sum condition. Lubiere (4463), Ottawa, Ontario, Canada Oct 25, 2008 A golden amber ale with a thick off white head. A nice fruity banana aroma with light cloves and vanilla fudge. In mouth, a light flowery sweetness, bananas, bubble gum. Light bodied. A decent beer for its price. 0.69 euros in a supermarket, Belgium, tasted November 2006.
