06-24-2015: A nice unknown beer from Hoegaarden. I donít know what itís got to do with Julius Caesar, but it is a nice beer.

Bottle from Beers of Europe. Havenít had this for years, since Oddbins in Preston had the whole Hoegaarden range for some inexplicable reason! Deep amber colour, nice white head. Sweet example of a Belgian ale, boozy fruitiness, bit of yeast and barely enough spicy hop. Hint of pear drop esters. Ok, not my favourite thing, but very drinkable for a change.

33cl bottle at home. Hazy dark orange with a medium white soapy head. Medium to full body with moderate carbonation. Quite sweet with some bitter tones. Yeast, banana, apricot, herbs and spices. A tad too sweet, but still a nice Belgian brew.

Bottle. Semi-clear amber body, medium head. Aroma has estery over-ripe bananas and some yeast. Sweet taste with more banana. Fruity finish with yeasty bananas. This beer is totally bananas! Isnít it weird that an actual Belgian banana beer like "Mongozo Banana" gets a score of "4" while a more alcoholic beer that tastes like bananas with the help of other means gets a score of 73. People really like their ales to be boozy. Ratebeer consensus, you disappoint me again.

Bottle from Dranken Verheyen in Poppel. The beer is dark golden-blonde colored and pours a large white head, with livingly CO2. The aroma is a nice palate of herbs (coriander like), orange peels, bananas and wheat. Complex taste of citrus notes and some spicy bitterness in which the coriander is clearly noticable. The finish is long and medium bitter. Just as good as Hoegaarden grand cru. It is just what you like.
