Hoegaarden Speciale

250 ml bottle. 5.7%. From Köln, Germany. BB 29.08.08. Hazy dark brown/golden colour with small white head. Fruits, citrus, coriander and wheat in sweetish aroma. Sweet fruity flavour with banana, citrus, wheat, malt and some spices. I guess I should get a fresher one for lighter (perfect) colour.

Bottle. Deep cloudy gold color. Fruity, citrus, wheat malt, coriander aroma. Lots of rich, creamy, citrus fruit. Sweet, fruity, wheat malt flavor. A bit too sweet. Spicy, citrus. Full, smooth, body. They can still do something right over there.

At vonk slijterij zaandam, bottle 250ml, hazy golden, medium lasting head, sweet banana, some citrus, other fruits, nice full base.

Straw colour, unfiltered fine foam. Looks better than the regular Hoegaarden. Sweet/fruity aroma, less citrusy. Not so complex. More hoppy. More character and taste than the regular. Very balanced. Fresh, quite (a little too) watery, thin body. Wife likes it better than the regular. So do I. Great! Purchased for 25dkr in Barley Wine.

Botlled, 250ml from Hopduvel, Ghent. Clouded yellow with white head. Very similar to it’s stablemate, spicy, cloves, corriander with the ripe banana note and a citrusy hop. Not sure that the bottle size is enough. It’s ok for a wheat.

Thanks to Belgianbeergal, of course, for this one. Cloudy yellow orange glow with a small head that fades fast. Aroma is light spice and sweet candi sugar. Light yeast present. Taste is sweet and light . Smooth and very drinkable. I would say this one held up, thanks!

Cloudy golden coloured body with a frothy dense white head. Aroma of wheat, coriander seed, pale malt, bright hops and a little sweetness. Medium-bodied; Strong malty flavour with alcohol, bananas, cloves and a bit of hops in the taste. Aftertaste shows some bitterness, a little sugars and a decent amount of alcohol! Overall, not a bad beer and worth trying if you can find it! I sampled this 25 cL bottle purchased at a small shop in Bruxelles, Belgium on 13-March-2008.

25 cl bottle at Ris Ras, Århus - shared with Roger. Hazy yellow color, medium white head. Aroma is yeast and citrus/orange. Flavor is citric, fruity, malty with ok bitterness.
