(Bottle, best before 19/10/07) Pours a murky brown body with an average beige head. Aroma of musty leaves and sulfur. Flavor of sweet malt and dark fruit (raisins, dates) with a soft, smooth finish.

Has a little banana in the aroma. Taste has a nice amount of spiciness and the alcohol is a little bit noticeable. A nice strong Belgian Ale.

It has been some time since I was wrestled to the ground and kicked thoroughly by this beer. I’m almost ready to do battle with it again. I was impressed by the depth of flavour in this beer. The colour was a bit murky, but something I suppose improves with age... something I’m going to risk by buying a bottle.

330ml bottle. exp 12/07. Alc 8.5% (according to label - not 8.8% as listed on this site.) Thick and chewy beer with raisin tendencies. Good head that lasts a while. Very malty and not much hops. Great value at $3.45 per bottle at the local supermarket. I have aged some of this stuff for several years and it improves with time. So far the oldest I have had is three years (i.e. one year past listed expiry) and it only improves in that time.

Bottle. Poured a semi-opague mahogany with a very nice foamy head that lasted throughout the glass. Fairly good lacing. Scents of oranges, pineapple, raisins and sugar. Similar tastes occured with the surprise of passion fruit towards the end. Coffee and toffee flavors come forward as well as it warms up. Nice, filling, somewhat higher than average malitiness but still excellent. Superb!

Re-rate, May 05, bottle shared by Robert at SL. Seems to be a different experience than my first, plenty cherry fruitiness over top of a pilsner malt type base: sulfur, grass. Decent brew. Thanks to Robert for another crack at this one. Original Rating: From a bottle at the Dachsbrau House in Krefeld, Germany, listed as a starkbier. Poured a murky brownish color, maybe some orange hues in there, nice intial fluffy head, some sedimentation. Good retention, decent lacing. A pretty beer, aroma full of dark fruits, spicing, and yeast. The flavor followed suit, adding in caramel and then coriander most prominent among the spices, but this one wasn’t overspiced. Smooth, lightly bittered finish from the yeast, along with some pepper that came out as it warmed. A nice beer, but not as good as the Grand Cru I had in Belgium.

Bottle from Utobeer. Clear. Dark red with little / no head. Spicey citrus nose. Taste of oranges, plum and caramel. Strong pepper overtones with a bitter finish. On the fence with this one. Opinion varies every time I sample it. (6,3,6,3,13)
Bottle from Quaff’s. Didn’t realize Forbidden Fruit was an alias of this, Duh! but no biggie it’s a decent beer. Amber with a thick off white head and quite a bit of sediment. Yeasty with sweet malts, pepper, refried beans and hints of orange. It’s funny when you go back in on some of your old rates and see how similar they are, only difference is that I upped a couple points on the overall...

Bottle. Orange citrus nose with yeast tones. Dark rusty hue with small floaters and a decent head. Orange, pear malt and yeast flavour with a powerful alcoholic kick.
