Darker color than the "Grand Cru" that I tried it alongside. Not as nice scent and taste as the earlier mentioned, but not bad either. I can however taste the alcohol in this one. | 3.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 6/10 | 5/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 13/20 | Mar 5, 2006 Nice chocolat brown with a thick head. Smokey taste with a bit of weak fruit. Mixed taste that really didn’t got that great together, the balance seems off. A bit sweet but more bitter with a sour finish. A nice warming alcohol taste in there as well. Hazy dark plum pour with an active and noisy mocha head. Impressive fig aromas with boozey malt aromas dominate. Yeasty esters are also present. Anise and booze in the mouth, with a rooted plum and fig taste. Strong and sweet, with a good warming quality to the finish. A winner. chalmers (8), Bordeaux, France does not count | 3.9 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 17/20 | Feb 27, 2006 I bought this soley for the name. Usually I try to be careful of strong Belgian beers, but my beer store had it and it caught my attention so to speak.
The head is really long lasting. I poured it about 45 minutes ago and it had a nice full 1/2 inch head on it. Since then I have been savoiring it while doing other things. Very sweet beer, and the 8.5% ABV is starting show. There is a minor bitter after-taste, but nothing to really complain about. All-in-all quite a good beer.
