3.5 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 BiochemProf (179) - Boone, North Carolina, USA - SEP 18, 2011
Slightly cloudy pale yellow pour with a pleasing white head that quickly fades. Aroma of soft banana esters and slight orange notes with a hint of DMS upon warming. Sweet start to the flavor with banana and pear notes followed by pepper and spice and a very mild bitterness in the finish. Medium bodied, highly carbonated small bubble mouthfeel. Very nice classic witbier.

Massive seller at work. Figured I’d try it. As far as wheat beers go (and me not being to fond of them), this one isn’t too bad. Orange spices and cloves are prominent on the nose. Orange peel and spices in the taste. Very easy and sessionable

UPDATED: NOV 12, 2011 Sampled in various places, both tap and bottle. Dirty cloudy appearance, spicy and orangey to drink. Given the distribution I guess it defines the Witbier category - but for me it’s thirst quenching and a nice change from other beer styles.

75 cl. bottle, shared. Hazy, yellow colour with a thin, bubbly white head. Aroma of orange peel and slight coriander. Medium carbonation. Taste is very light with soursweet notes. I get orange peel, coriander, spices and a touch of wheat in the finish. Very refreshing beer for the summer and a true classic.

Serving glass: Poured from bottle into Summit Scandia Witbier glass (RIP Scandia)
Appearance: Very pale cloudy yellow with nice stark white head and bubbly legs that rise and fall.
Aroma: Orange peel, coriander, banana and cloves are all in full force. Wheat malt aroma is minimal.
Taste: Mostly orange peel and slightly sour wheat malt. There is just a touch of coriander before it turns more clove-like on the finish. While well made, a little more bland than other Witbiers I have had.
Palate: Moderately high carbonation, medium body, dry tart finish.
Overall: Extremely refreshing Witbier that defines the style for me. Very balanced overall, which means that it has no aberrations, but also means that it does not quite reach the heights of which the style is capable. Once again, RIP Summit Scandia.
Considering the large distribution of this beer, this should be the Witbier that mainstream drinkers choose, not the sub-standard Blue Moon.
