wimpie133 (130), Brugge, Belgium May 24, 2009 25 cl, bottle. The beer is served in the typical strong Hoegaarden glass, but than in the best way, or the way Hoegaarden should be served:: in a frozen glass. The beer looks yellow and hazy, troubled, turbid (or how you want to call it). There is a big white creamy head, but the foam disappears to a thin head while drinking. The beer smells fruity - citrus and a bit of orange - and grainy and hoppy, but also spicy (the coriander from the description). The taste is grainy, fruity (lemon) and light bitter, but also a bit wattery (but maybe this is a result of the frozen glass in which I served the beer). A very good and refreshing witbier, rightfully the most popular in Belgium. chrisv10 (336), Denmark May 24, 2009 50 cl Draft in original giant glass. Pours a hazy golden white color with a very thin white head. Great WitBier. WVHouseofBeer (339), Morgantown, West Virginia, USA May 22, 2009 This is probably the best Witbier out there. Good coriander and citrus notes on the aroma and nice citrus taste with some wheat. Pours a light hazy yellow. Steely (149), , Sweden May 20, 2009 Pours a hazy golden white color with a very thin white head. Interesting aroma with lots of orange, coriander and yeast. Fresh flavor of citrusfruit, wheat and spices. Finishing with some candy sweetness mixed with a citrus sourness. Kestral (191), Oslo, Norway May 20, 2009 Pours pale yellow, a bit hazy. Big head, leaves little lacing. Aroma is pretty big on coriander, a good amount of yeast and citrus. The same returns in the flavour, along with a more bready malt feel and some more spices. Not a lot going on here, but it’s refreshing and enjoyable, well balanced. Could have been smoother in the mouth. tarheels86 (705), Washington DC, USA May 19, 2009 Updated: Nov 1, 2009On tap. Ha! Can’t believe I’ve never rated this. Pours a super light almost neon cloudy yellow. Small white cap that leaves smidgens of lacing and has little retention. Aroma is heavy on Belgian yeast, coriander, orange peel, lemon zest. Taste on tap is less soapy than I remember from sampling bottles: tons of spice, yeast, citrus. Higher carbonation but not overpowering.
Creamy on the palate. I think this gets low marks because it is so ubiquitous. But this is an excellent witbier. The best I have had aside from St. Bernardus Blanche. beerfest5 (128), Simsbury, Connecticut, USA May 18, 2009 one of my fav drinking beers, but i gotta say, even though this is from Belgium, my fav white is still alagash, go figure. tgncc (797), Bellmore, New York, USA May 17, 2009 The appearance is a very hazy, very light yellow, white head, lots of carbonation. The aroma is coriander, clove, cereal grains, orange peel. The flavor is wheaty, spicy, orange peel. The finish has a decent bittering from hops, spices, clove, orange peel. Relatively thin mouthfeel. Nice beer overall.
