3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
UPDATED: AUG 23, 2005 First off, I have to say that I’m rating a bottle and not a draught Hoegaarden. They’re almost like two different animals. The draught is far superior and I don’t understand why. At any rate, the beer pours nicely and looks beautiful in the glass. The problem is that it doesn’t live up to it’s reputation in my opinion. The flavors that come out in the draught are hardly present. It tastes to me like a pale wheat beer. The draught is far superior for sure. Update 8/05 Just had some fresh bottles and much better than original review. Yeast and wheat flavors are nice and aroma of coriander is detected. A nice brew.

A very refreshing tasting beer. Good to drink in the summer months. Has nice hints of citrus in it.

A good Belgian white, and it went down well with Thanksgiving dinner.

On tap. cloudy yellow/gold. Some citrus, spice, just sweet enough. Not quite as full as some other whites, but very good and refreshing.

UPDATED: OCT 28, 2005 March, 2003: Bottle. Unfiltered. Enjoyable and refreshing. The spice is less noticable in this than other witbiers I’ve tried, and the slight citric edge adds a gentle and juicy tang. I would buy this again. [3.5]
April 2003 Keg. Unfiltered. Just had this on tap. O yummy! Fresh and delicately fruity - the orange shines through, perfectly balanced by the gentle warmth of the spice. An absolute joy! [3.9]
Oct, 2004: Pression. Market bar, Nimes. With lemon slice. Salty froth. The lemon dominates to the extent that it provides most of the interest. The beer itself is simply inoffensive. [2.3]
Oct, 2005: Bottle. One of my local pubs has Celis White on tap. So I had some of that, and then a bottle of this straight after. Hmmm. The Hoegaarden tastes very insipid after the Celis White. It also tastes very clean. It’s pleasant - but lacks character. [2.6]

Oh yum. You can get this in BUCKETS at Charlie's in Harvard Square, Cambridge MA. Smooth stuff with a charmingly bright flavor.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Aroma is light and yeasty...Color is signature cloudy, chalky lemon--head is moderate and foamy, with decent lace...Flavor is bright and lightly sharp; coriander rides along neatly, while orange peel makes its statement in the finish, contributing concurrent sweetness and citric bitters...Body is light but not watery--just refreshing...This is a good change of pace selection, especially appropriate on a warm sunny afternoon.

Pale yellow in color and cloudy. A nice frothy head. A sour floral aroma with great spice. Sour flavor...spices. A little bitter and astringent.
