3.9 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 18/20 Machapuchare (4) - USA - JUL 12, 2010 does not count
The aroma is full of cereal maltiness an bread. The appearance of this beer is one of it’s best qualities. It has a ghostly, hazily pale color. The head is gorgeous and full of beautiful belgian lace, and takes up a fourth of the glass. I am normally not a wheat beer fan, but the sour/sweet taste is wonderful. The body is light but satisfying, with a moderately thick texture, and highly effervescent carbonation. Utterly delicous.

Incredibly sippable belgian white with a prominent note of orange peel. Great introductory wheat beer for those who have yet to experience the smooth drinkability but full-bodied flavor of the style. Hoegaarden’s sweetness spreads across the palate like silk, and the citrus note is prominent without being ostentatious or domineering, sometimes a hazard with wheat beers. Basically, it is an excellent upper-midrange wheat beer that is completely accessible, easy to come across, and fairly priced. If you can’t enjoy one of these I don’t think we’ll be able to hang out.

One of my favorites. Excellent mouthfeel. Great array of spices on the palate. I correctly pronounced it when ordering the other day and was cut short but the server who said "oooh, you mean ’ho garden!’" No, I mean get me out of oklahoma.

Pours hazy straw color with thick white head and foamy lacing. Notes of citrus and spice typical of this style. Same with taste. Good witbier.

Cloudy yellow pour from bottle. Nose and taste are of lemon peel, spice and light sugar. Very smooth finish. A nice beer to have on a day you don’t feel like drinking anything heavy or high abv. Also mixes well with a raspberry lambic (my wife does this; she says it is called "hummingbird water").

Bottle from my local supermarket. Had this many many times over the years, surprised I haven’t rated it before. A hazy yellow pour with a healthy white head on top. Bready, banana aroma. Tastes of lemon, banana, coriander, spice, quite sweet, acidic. Quite pleasant on a hot day in the garden.

On tap at Wolfgang Puck’s in the Borgata casino in Atlantic City. Surprisingly spicy. Coupled with the citrus flavors it was both thirst-quenching and -inducing. Will try it again from a bottle when the mood strikes for a light summer beer.
