Ungstrup (11338), Frederiksberg, Denmark Apr 15, 2006 A deep red beer with a brown head. The aroma is sweet with notes of roasted malt, while the flavor is sweet and very malty combined with a light roastiness. omhper (10728), Stockholm, Sweden Jul 20, 2007 Bottled. Dark red, near black, fluffy beige head. Roasty licorice aroma. Dry yet fruity. Light bodied with lots of licorice. Heavily salty with tarry bitter finish. Not at all as cloyingly sweet as many German porters has been. This one remians drinkable and pleasant. Papsoe (10225), Frederiksberg, Denmark Oct 11, 2005 (Bottle 25 cl) There aren’t many German porters around, but this is one of the few. Deep reddish brown rather than black with a light brown head. Malty, roasted aroma. Flavour is full of hard roasted malt, not really burned or smoked, but it does indeed come with a long, bitter finish. 040602 Oakes (6966), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 13, 2001 Fairly dark chestnut, bright; Smoke, dark chocolate and whole wheat toast on the nose; smooth milk chocolate and espresso glide across the palate - this is a year old and the is a fusion of flavour that is hard to attain in a younger beer; late hit of alcohol, preceded by a hoppily dry finish. Like a restrained version of Harvey Porter. Considering that this is six months past its due date, this isn’t showing any signs of wear and should mature nicely up to another year. yespr (6889), Copenhagen O, Denmark Jun 12, 2008 From tap at La Cerveteca and 33 cL bottle from the same place. Pours dark brown, clear, and with a golden orange glare. huge off-white to tan head. Dry roasted malt with a classic Hoepfner house character. Flavour is nicely roasted malt with a light metallic note in the bottle but not in the tap version. Subdued sweetness initially going into a rather dry roasted and bitter flavour. Ends with a nice lingering roasted malt flavour. Unusual for a German beer and in addition a good Baltic Porter - well done!
