Oakes (6823), Miami Beach, Florida, USA Nov 13, 2001 Fairly dark chestnut, bright; Smoke, dark chocolate and whole wheat toast on the nose; smooth milk chocolate and espresso glide across the palate - this is a year old and the is a fusion of flavour that is hard to attain in a younger beer; late hit of alcohol, preceded by a hoppily dry finish. Like a restrained version of Harvey Porter. Considering that this is six months past its due date, this isn’t showing any signs of wear and should mature nicely up to another year. BeerLimey (1875), California, USA May 21, 2001 Have to agree with Gusler on this one. As my first receival from MJ’s real beer tour I was a little disappointed. Lacks the depth character and body I expect from a porter. It’s decent and enjoyable. Will be on my top 100 porter list for some time, as I only have about 30 so far. iwantalambic (1356), St. Louis, Missouri, USA Nov 29, 2004 12 bottle: rich mahogany. A steady stream of bubbles feed a late-blooming, off-tan creamy foam. Good lookin’ beer! Toasted peanut aroma with hints of Baker’s chocolate, toffee and hazelnuts. Milk-creamy palate, with a bitter, metallic twang that turns slightly piney through the finish. There is a good deal of chocolate covered roasted nuts along with the mocha sweetness. A fairly decent session porter. janubio (125), Spain May 12, 2007 Pours a dark red colour, with a big brownish head. Lot of foam and leaves a good lace that sticks to the glass. Aroma, well the first impression is not very good, smells to something like rotten fruit. Then I find a roasted smell of coffee, dried fruits, pine needles, chocolate, licorice.
Mouth is silky, coffee and chocolate. Medium to full body. More than decent beer.
Gusler (2656), Tucson, Arizona, USA Mar 20, 2001 A decent but not great porter, nice malt and some hop spicyness, but still disappointed as it reputation is noteworthy.Good but will not make my top 100 porter list.
